Difficult to make any sense out of this.

Played well in Toronto. Didn't seem injured. Didn't play any games after that. So, no possibility of injury in games after Toronto.
Won't join Spurs on road trip.
And reliable sources seeming to indicate that Manu may possibly have a season-ending injury.
And silence from Manu and the Spurs on Manu's status.

Doesn't make any sense. Hard to reconcile all of these statements.
All right before the trade deadline . . .

    Yes.

Wait untill it's clear that's not a serious matter.

We first got wind yesterday. Today, two more sources told us the same thing. A fourth source insists that he's just resting and nothing serious has been officially diagnosed.

But the bad news is that the most connected source is in the first group.

    Pray, Spurs fans.

    Pray.

Please tell me your 2 sources are Jeff McDonald and his imaginary friend.

Not as much as you are allowed to trade (mentally)-injured posters.

I can only think of two things.

    1. He did something non-basketball related to hurt himself within the last couple of days.
    2. Whatever it is has been bugging him for a while and someone reached the decision that he would only do more harm to himself if he tried to keep playing on it.

My theory: this allows the Spurs to say, "We can't give up both Mason and Hill when we might be down Manu..."

I really hope you're right, but the Spurs could have just as easily said "that's too much to give up".

The only way I can see this being CIA is that Pop wants to scare off other teams from Manu, and by saying he's damaged goods then other teams won't be as likely to demand him in the trade.

Obviously, that would hurt our bargaining power as far as what we can get.

This theory would be a real stretch but at this point everything is a mystery. The day before the draft the FO did that weird email to every team saying they wanted to trade their pick. The FO seems to pull some crazy tricks from time to time that seem to be intended to mislead and confuse.

Even if we don't make a trade, I'm not sure we'll ever get a straight answer about this until later when it's randomly dropped into a Harvey column.

That Manu somehow severely aggravated his ankle while on All Star Break seems ludicrous on its face, especially when his comments were about lifting weights, getting treatment, and trying to relax during the break. It could be possible that he injured it, just not likely in my opinion.

Hopefully by Friday some confirmed reports will shed some light on all of this. Anything is possible at this point.
I'm a total spurs fan and I'm not saying they actually do mislead and confuse or make up rumors about injuries. But everyone says how classy the Spurs are(and I agree) but wouldn't lying about injuries to better yourself be un-classy?? I don't necissarily believe this is the case but thats a major running contradiction in these forums.

It would be a sheisty move if the Spurs leaked a rumor about a season ending injury to keep him from a trade. Isn't that like joking about your kid dying? Plus, couldn't teams just require him to take a physical?

Not sure if you are being sarcastic with that question, but if you are serious I believe the traded player has to pass a physical or the trade is voided if I am not mistaken

I think their strength is something of a front. They're hemorrhaging money. I think Carter is gone, regardless. They're just trying to salvage 50 cents on the dollar.
