Wait....I got it....
Andrew Gaze.
Supposedly the greatest Australian player of all time. Nice enough guy, but he sucked.
I don't know what's dumber, someone claiming they played with Hughes or someone saying Van Exel helped the Spurs in the playoffs. Van Exel was a Spurs killer his entire career. His. Entire. Career.

Damon Stoudamire
Well from my generation i would say Nosho
In absolute terms, the worst Spur will be someone like Bateer whose best quality is his presence. IIRC, the reason the Spurs acquired him was because Mark Bryant deemed him the strongest player in the league to wrestle in the post (dammit where is that link?) It was rather amusing, because it sounds like something I'd see written on this forum or overhear some drunk Jim Bob spew at a game. 'It's like wrasslin' a bear'.
Otherwise you have players who failed to live up to the hype. Hughes is obviously at the top of that list. I'd put Pressey up there even though his stats were ok because he cost the Spurs Brick and his acquisition just didn't make much sense.
Mercer was pretty bad. The Spurs paid him to go away. That takes some doing.
IMO, one of the worst Spurs was Rod Strickland. Between the broken wrist and the no look pass he definitely screwed up some golden chances in DRob's early years.
Lest we forget this guy:
Yes, he put up #s in SA, but he was one of the worst thanks to the friggin' sideshow. Not to mention not rotating out on Horry in Game 1 of the '95 WCF.
I remember being sort of excited when I heard he signed with us. lol
How has this thread gone 4 pages without...

Bateer averaged 17/11 in China this year.![]()
Jaren Jackson after June of 1999.
Shown here with the 1st place trophy in the Compe ive Eating Contest (since discontinued) at the 2000 NBA All-Star Game.
2005-2006 season
wasn't the best his last season and he made some big mistakes in the Mavs series...but not the worst we have had
Charlie Ward anyone?
As I recall it, he was signed in the middle of the 2004 season to solidify the backup PG position but couldn't even beat out Jason Hart.
Yeah he sucked hard. I remember Ghost busting a forum nut or two over that acquisition.
We have a winner.
Remember this bastid? He lasted like one month and that was after the Spurs picked him up to be their defensive minded backup point. IIRC he and/or his agent covered up some injury. He created the opportunity for Charlie Heisman to steal some of Holt CAT's $.
Nve
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Samaki Walker...

Darius Washington was rather craptacular after being hyped as the second coming of Zeke by Spurs fans.
JR Reid too.

My "fave 5" would be:
Alfredrick Hughes
Charles Smith
Carl Herrera
Jerry Tarkanian
Dwayne Schintzus
honorable mention to Bob Hill, who was so awful he inspired team of choirboys to mutiny. Hadn't really thought of him until reading your post Marcus. Nice one.
