Alright, this library is completely ing boring.
Last night I read a 15 page chapter on the evolution of the card catalog.
I really don't care about the ing card catalog.
Yea but have you ever ed on the card catalog? That is very interesting!
Card catalogs were disposed of by a majority of libraries in the mid-90's, so that's a no.
They were taking up too much space and they took too much time to search compared to the ability to quickly search computerized catalogs. Also, computerized catalogs gave a better ability to search items that have been cross-referenced and gave the user more accurate and detailed records of local holdings than the card catalog ever could.
I took a physical treatments class this semester and spent 3 solid hours learning how to remove rusty paperclips and staples from paper. It was fun for the first half hour or so ... and then it got old.
God bless you for going into this profession because you actually enjoy it. I'm just doing it because I enjoy the laid back atmosphere of the academic library and low level of stress that comes with working in a library. Oh and I love the abundance of down time when school is out. My goal in life is to do as little work as possible for a decent salary and this is my way of achieving said goal. But damn this is boring.

I'm at the part about organization and implementation of automated and electronic libraries.
Oh and this ing book I'm reading was written in '98 so it's way the out dated.
Haha, I love parts of it - I'm busting my ass now so that I can eventually settle into something that's less work and more money than the public library. I love books and manuscripts, and you have to pay a lot of dues to get closer to them and farther away from the public (and all of the crazies that come with it).
The management class I'm taking right now makes me want to claw my eyes out.
