I guess my two cents would be that I specifically avoid online social networking. Twitter, Facebook and Myspace. So I'm not too enamored with the idea that ST would incorporate similar features into the boards. That said, it's not my site and nobody's forcing me to use said features, but all things being equal, I'd just assume ST not partially devolve into cliques of social networkers.

The upgrade of the message board software came with a lot of such features built-in. We are in the process of going through and figuring out if which if any are worth using. Many have already been turned off, including facebook and twitter clones . . .

I honestly wouldn't have noticed any of the new features (except the different colored names and, eventually, the different looking profiles) if they hadn't been pointed out in various threads. It even took me a few days to realize the arcade and casino were up and running.

Right now the friend thing does nothing other than ..... list friends or whatever.
