First I can ever recall of an exception, anyone have recent memory of such an exception happening?
Spurs will probably waive Malik

I somewhat doubt Spurs got an exception. You don't get one that easily.
If someone has to be waived...waive Vaughn!
Agreed. The Heat were down to Riley, Ahearn and a mascot last year before their exception was allotted...but it is possible. That's all I'm saying.
Is he even available for the playoffs? If not, then what was the point?
Fab hasn't played since the heart problem. He's the 5th big on the depth chart now and his contract is only 50% guaranteed for next year. Almost inevitable that he will be not be back next year. I think he is the most likely candidate to be waived.
If they sign Williams now, they may get something out of him this year and perhaps lock him up on a partially guaranteed minimum deal for next year.
1.9 is still a lot to swallow in this economy...
He has been tearing it up in Austin no doubt. But so has Malik and DeMarcus Nelson.
They either pay him 3.8M next year to play or 1.9M not to play and use the 1.9M towards other talent. 1.9M would be enough for Hairston, Gist and a 2nd round pick in this year's draft
Agreed. I think something was mentioned a while back that if his heart began giving him problems again he said he would retire. It makes sense.
Dell Demps was interviewed at the halftime of the Toros game.
He said that Marcus Williams has really matured as a player and that they really like his passing and his rebounding skills. He also said that Hairston need to improve his shoot.
Marcus definitely isn't playing for the Toros tonight.
Will he be available for the playoffs?
Malik Hairston is playing in Austin tonight and has 18 POINTS AT THE HALF.
Pop please bring him to SA.
Marcus Williams who had no game 18 months ago is now a stud!? Stranger things have happened, I guess.
Will Williams be able to play in the Playoffs? And will Pop let him play?
It looks like the guy can score in the Dleague but more importantly how is his D?
Edit: ok he can play in the Playoffs...
As said by others, Oberto hasn't played for Spurs since his heart troubles.
If he decides to retire because of this injury, his salary will be mainly paid by insurances and his 09-10 will not count against the cap (and the luxury tax).
Even if it would be really bad to see Oberto retiring for health reasons, he would be a nice operation money-wise.
So..... it is official that we signed him??? I hope he is a real difference maker from the start!!! Let's hope that he plays the way he always played in the D-League!!!![]()
Williams averaged 92% from the free throw line in March?
He's not Spurs material.
Is that emoticon going to turn to aif the Spurs waive Mahinmi?
And as far as I know, you don't get an exception for an extra roster spot unless you have a bunch of injuries.
popovich calling him up to be backup pg in the playoffs?Williams was averaging 23 points, 7.0 boards and 5.3 assists, as a sort of point-forward for the Spurs affiliate, the Austin Toros.
That's what I thought as well.
