I agree with the both sentiments. I really want the entire starting lineup of the Toros (Nelson/Hairston/Williams/Dawson/Jones) in the Spurs' summer leagues.
I initially heard from Scott, prior to his post. He heard it from a few reliable people prior to the game. I'd be surprised if he was given a bum steer. And, of course, it was announced for all to hear during the Futurecast.

True. And there's a sentiment I agree with.
I wonder if hill now is trade bait if williams backup point guard
I watched every single game of Marcus' college career and most games in his first year in the D league. If he has improved to a level that he can contribute to an NBA team, much less the Spurs, then he has undergone quite a dramatic transformation. Not impossible, but not what I would have predicted knowing him.
As of a year ago, he had little to no shooting ability outside 15 feet, lacked court vision, had a poor at ude, and didn't exert a huge amount of effort on defense. He's got some talent but never worked hard enough to realize alot of it and coasted frequently, especially while at Arizona.
It's possible his advocates here are correct since it's been about a year since I gave up on him, but it would be a dramatic turn of events. I've still got his red Arizona #3 hanging in my closet. I'd love a reason to not be ashamed of owning it.
No, I think Pop dreams about Hill developing a corner 3.
any reason to believe this wasn't a keeper signing?
Add in George Hill, James Gist, Ian Mahinmi and a draft pick or two and that is a fabulous summer league squad.
what do you mean?
Couldn't agree more -- with the D-League guys, Ian, Gist, et al in camp, some decent players have to come from that compe ion, right? Of course if they make the team they'll just have their fragile young basketball psyches destroyed by "one of the best coaches in the league".
(and he is, of course)
I think I understand your question. I think TimVP is dead on. This is not a move anyone would expect to see mean anything before summer. If it did, we'd all be shocked.
Nelson's putting up pretty good numbers - what's your assessment (other than wanting him to be in the SL?)
I saw Nelson with the Warriors in preseason and early in the regular season. He even started at point guard in about six or eight games I saw. And while he seems to have some good tools, he looked a long, long ways away from being able to play point guard on the NBA level. Compared to Nelson, CJ Watson looked like John Stockton.
But then again, Nelson played shooting guard in college and an undrafted rookie can't be expected to not only start right away but play a new position. IIRC, he had some very nice stat lines during preseason so that is an indicator that he's at least a prospect worth watching.
This is one of the more interesting developments, and it seems two lines are getting crossed info wise.
I don't like letting go Hairston for Williams, but if its Vaughn or Oberto, then IMO its a solid move worth looking at.
An article states an injury exception, I'm assuming because of Manu. If I can put two and two together, am I correct in assuming that we can have Williams signed (even if he's on the bench, but dressed), in place of Manu since he's gone?
That article IMO has to be wrong.
Pop loves Hill's defensive aggressiveness and his athleticism. I'd be very surprised if Pop tried to trade Hill. The NBA has trended towards quicker point guards and Hill is built to take them on. He just needs more time with the coaching staff over the summer to eliminate the rookie mistakes that drive Pop crazy.
What mistakes was he making before Mason took over at backup PG?
And directed at no one, how could they be so bad he went to JV, who can't shoot better, run faster, jump higher, get to the rim more effectively, play better D, get in a third the blocks/points Hill does? Oh wait, he brings stability.![]()
So sorry, my bad. I forgot that Hill was the Ultimate and Perfect, mistake free Rookie. The most perfect Rookie to ever play in the NBA. The Rookie who is now teaching Pop all about how basketball should be played in the NBA. The same Rookie who is playing 48 minutes a night without nary a breather from the likes of Parker and Mason. The Rookie who apparently Manufan909 thinks will be a unanimous pick as ROOKIE OF THE YEAR and will become Pop's replacement as the Spurs Head Coach next season so he can then teach all the incoming Rookies how to play Totally MISTAKE Free basketball.
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeesh...!
I heard they might recall Hairston instead.
Any updates?
Sign Cassell and cut Vaughn then call iit a day.
agree.
what seperates Malik from Marcus is his NBA body and athleticism. this doesn't mean that Marcus won't be in the NBA one day, but at this point he will be eaten alive.
Malik is a bit short for the prototypical wing, but he's strong, is a huge leaper and he's faster than he looks at first sight. I have no doubt he will develop his skills and become a legit NBA player. but I do have my doubts that Marcus will ever put on the needed bulk and his skills are not that great that he could become a player like Rip Hamilton.
How can we have already signed him if we have not released anybody?
We haven't. The only report of his signing is from a D-League blog. His source may have been the same Toro broadcast that Bruno reported. If he is to be signed, the announcement will be in connection with the waiver of one of the 15 players currently under contract.
