And I agree with ThunderDan 2007 was not a choke job. Even before the finals people were calling that team the worst team to ever reach the finals. In order for a team to be a choker that team has to lose what they were supposed to win. Most people predicted a sweep that year.
1995 for baseball I can't even remember but 1997 wasn't a choke job either. The Marlins are great at being cheap for 5-6 years and then buying another world series. Their team was stacked that year, and of course they sold the entire team off after the series.
Agree. Cavaliers had no chance to win that series. Had they won, it would have been the greatest upset in Finals history by far. Our boys just went up against superior manpower and superior firepower and got beat. I didn't like getting swept, but that's the way it goes sometimes. 1997 was a choke. Not only did the Tribe blow Game 7 in the bottom of the ninth, they also blew two games at the Jake in which they had multiple-run leads late. They should have won it in five. '95 was a combination of inexperience vs. experience, Carlos Baerga being a black hole (three times making the last out with Albert Belle on deck in one-run games) bull home-plate umpiring, and having to start the series in Atlanta. As far as buying a world series goes, the 2001 D-Backs are still the best. They had to buy Johnson and Schilling. Not only did they buy Louis Gonzalez and Steve Finley, they also had to buy the steroids for those two to have the fluke career year they had.

The actual choke in 1997 was Tony Fernandez letting a ball go through his legs in the 11th inning which would have been a double play ball to end the inning. That put the runner on base, extended the inning...and well, you know the rest.
I don't think the 97 World Series gets enough credit in the land of all time chokes. Everyone talks about the Drive and Fumble, but the 97 World Series is right up there. I mean you have one of the best closers in the game choking, and then Tony Fernandez, a Gold Glove 2nd Baseman letting a ball go through his legs.

For the record, I cried when the Indians lost the World Series in 1997. I was just turning 12 and all I wanted was for my grandpa to see the Indians win a World Series before he died. He had season tickets right behind the dugout for as long as I could remember. I went to probably 20-25 games a year, including every Sunday with him. I used to go up to the old stadium and watch them but not even care about who won or anything. When I got older in 1994 I started to understand it and follow it more. Anyways, in 1995 I wasn't that upset, but in 1997 I felt like it was the last shot at them winning while he was still alive....well good news and bad news. The good news is he is still alive, but the bad news is out favorite team is still the Indians and they are not winning anything any time soon. We still have tickets and actually took him to the Yankees game made infamous by Lebron wearing a Yankees hat. So I guess you could say we were close in 2007 and would of won if we had beaten Boston 1 more time, but there is nothing like Game Seven, Bottom of the 9th with 2 outs to go.
and I didn't cry in 2007. I went to Game 6 when Beckett pitched like a 3 hit shutout- I was frankly really stoned and drunk sitting in the very last section of the stadium, so I could have given a about my feelings after that one. And Game 7 (which I still think was fixed becuase they squeezed Carmona in the 1st so Drew hit that Grand Slam) I just got really pissed for watching the game on my friends great Plasma Tv, which is also a jinx box because every time I watch a game on there my team loses. Happened the whole NBA Finals, 3 Ohio State National Championships, Game 3 of the Yanks series, and Game 1 of the Boston series. Still to this day its a jinx. Game Seven vs. the Celtics last year? Watched it on that TV. To this day I won't watch it on there

If you walked up to 10 people who fancied themselves as baseball fans and asked, "What team is the only team besides the Red Sox and the Yankees to have won more than 1 WS in the last 12 years?", I doubt 3 would be able to tell you.
You'd think that's bad but when I was 11 I cried because the Suns traded Jason Kidd in what was one of the most underrated re trades in human history.
All I know is that I'm prepared this year to face the letdown when the Cavs fail to win somehow. I know it won't happen in a normal cir stance, that something memorable will have to happen. It's such a sinking feeling to be a Cleveland fan. You have to keep everything in perspective. That is why we are so sensitive to the Lebron to New York talks. Has there been anything concrete about him leaving? no, unless you call wearing a hat his way of showing, but that is stupid. But Cleveland fans find the negative and slowly try and prepare themselves for the let down to come. Like going into the playoffs, I'm thinking "this should be fun to see the Cavs this year" but I'm also thinking that we probably won't win, and to be ready when we lose in the 2nd round or some other bull . Same goes for 2010, I haven't seen any reason for Lebron to leave, yet, I have already prepared myself for him leaving

The real choke came in the top of the ninth, when the Tribe led 2-1, had first and third with one out and couldn't get the insurance run in. That was the killer.
