Uhhh...depends on the Maloof brothers. Its a good move for them but will they have the patience to lose for the next 3-4 years?
This one is almost too good to be true, if you are a fan of any team in the Big East that isn’t Lousiville, or of the Kentucky Wildcats. Yahoo! Sports broke the story yesterday that Kings management has legit interest in Pitino, but in order to lure him back into the pro grame, Sacramento will have to give up some major cash. Pitino is making over $3 million dollars a year to run the show in Louisville, and with John Calipari rebuilding the Kentucky Wildcats empire, Pitino may be thinking ahead and look to get another payday in the pros.
His previous pro stints include coaching the Knicks for two seasons, and a forgettable run with the Boston Celtics, however if he took over this job, the frustration of losing may be too much for him. Sacramento is poised to secure the number one overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, which all signs point will be Blake Griffin. Prior to Pitino’s name being thrown in the mix, Mike Fratello and Eddie Jordan were the front runners to be the coach.

Hiring Pitino should effectively turn an on-the-ropes Kings franchise into a perpetual expansion team with the most balls in the draft lottery
I can't think of a team who has lost 3-4 years in the NBA that kept the coach around durning all this.
I don't want to say this is a dumb move for Pitino because he has expierence in NBA and College. I really just think of him as a coach on both levels. Kentucky sticks out just a hair. Either way who gives a .

That Kings job has to be one of the worst in the NBA for job security. Even worse than the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies have better talent that Sacramento. Much better talent.
Pitino should agree to a contract on the condition that the Kings win the lottery and get the overall #1 pick and choose Blake Griffin. Otherwise, he might have the Boston Celtics scenario all over again where he agreed and thought they were going to get Tim Duncan and ended up with Chauncey Billups who was not ready to fit or lead that kind of Pitino team.
Pitino would also have to change his schemes. One of the many reasons he sucked at Boston was that he treated the team and the players like college kids. He ran body destroying practices and made the full court press. That might work in a 30 game season where you play twice a week, but not in the pros with an 82 game schedule, with travel all the time and back-to-back games and facing world class athletes. He ran that team ragged. If he were to accept an offer, he better change his philosophies on how to coach a pro team.
