Tim Duncan and Tony Parker Earn All-NBA Honors
SAN ANTONIO - The NBA announced today that Tim Duncan and Tony Parker both earned spots on the league's All-NBA Teams.
Duncan was named to the All-NBA Second Team, making him the only player in NBA history to be named to an All-NBA Team in each of his first 12 seasons (First Team – 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007; Second Team – 2006, 2008, 2009). He joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (15), Shaquille O’Neal (14), Karl Malone (14), Dolph Schayes (12) Bob Cousy (12), Jerry West (12) and Hakeem Olajuwon (12) as one of just eight players to have been named to an All-NBA Team 12 or more times.
Parker earned All-NBA Third Team honors becoming the first Spurs point guard to be named to an All-NBA Team and just the fifth European player (Dirk Nowtizki, Peja Stojakovic, Drazen Petrovic and Detlef Schrempf) to be selected to an All-NBA Team.
Duncan posted 19.3 points, a team-high 10.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.68 blocks in 75 games. He ranked fourth in the NBA in rebounding, fourth in double-doubles with 49, and 11th in blocks. During the season he surpassed David Robinson on the Spurs all-time career rebounding list and now ranks 28th on the NBA’s all-time list. He finished the season in 40th place on the league’s all-time scoring list with 19,226 points and 12th on the NBA’s all-time blocked shots list with 2,117. He is just one of three active players (Shaquille O’Neal and Kevin Garnett are the others) to rank in the Top 50 on the NBA’s all-time scoring, rebounding and blocks list.
Parker enjoyed the best season of his career, averaging a team-best 22.0 points, a career-best 6.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 71 games. He was one of only two players (joining Chris Paul) in the NBA to shoot better than .500 (.506 (639-1,236)) from the field and average more than 5.0 assists per game. Parker scored a career-high 55 points while handing out 10 assists and grabbing seven rebounds at Minnesota on Nov. 5, to become just the second player in NBA history to record at least 55 points, 10-plus assists and 5-plus rebounds in a game joining Oscar Robertson.
LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the 2008-09 Most Valuable Player, was a unanimous selection to the 2008-09 All-NBA First Team. Joining James on the First Team are Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks and Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat.
James, who earns First Team honors for the second straight season, ranked second in the NBA in scoring (28.4 ppg), eighth in steals (1.69 spg) and 10th in assists (7.2 apg) to go along with averages of 7.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. James guided the Cavaliers to a franchise-best 66-16 record overall and a 39-2 mark at home, both tops in the league.
Bryant, the 2007-08 Most Valuable Player, finished third in the league in scoring (26.8 ppg), while averaging 5.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists. Bryant led the Lakers to a Western Conference-best 65-17 record. Among active players, only Tim Duncan (nine) and Shaquille O’Neal (eight) have more First Team selections.
Howard, an All-NBA First Team selection for the second consecutive season, led the NBA in rebounding (13.8 rpg) and blocks (2.9 bpg), becoming only the fourth player to pace the league in both categories since 1973-74, the first season where blocks were kept as an official statistic. Howard led the Magic in scoring (20.6 ppg), while shooting .572 from the field.
Earning his fourth First Team selection, Nowitzki was the league’s fourth-leading scorer (25.9 ppg), while also averaging 8.4 rebounds. His .890 free throw percentage ranked seventh overall. Nowitzki finished the season by scoring at least 20 points in 25 straight games, the longest such streak in the NBA this season.
Wade earns his first All-NBA First Team selection after ranking first in scoring (30.2 ppg), second in steals (1.7 spg) and eighth in assists (6.7 apg). He also averaged 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Wade became only the fifth player in league history to reach 2,000 points, 500 assists, and 150 steals in a single season.
The All-NBA Second Team consists of New Orleans’ Chris Paul and Portland’s Brandon Roy at guard, Duncan and Boston’s Paul Pierce at forward, and Houston’s Yao Ming at center.
The All-NBA Third Team includes Denver’s Chauncey Billups and Parker at guard, Denver’s Carmelo Anthony and the Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol at forward and Phoenix's Shaquille O'Neal at center.
The All-NBA Teams were chosen by a panel of 122 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis.

Actually I thought Manu was comparing it to that useless 6th MOY trophy he was awarded last year. I know he wasn't that happy about it. Manu didn't even seem that happy to be on the 3rd team.Manu said this last year

in 08: 3rd and 4th scorers weren't on the first all nba team
in 07: 2nd, 3rd and 4th leading scorers weren't
in 06: 3rd and 4th
in 05: 2nd and 4th
4th leading scorer is far from automatically giving a first team selection.
in 04, even the leading scorer, T-Mac, wasn't in the first team.

Per NBA.com, Wade was 8th at 7.5, and James tied for 9th at 7.2, for the record.

I'm OK with TD getting second team, but it should be at center not forward. Positions aren't carved in stone or anything, but he was definitely more of a center this year than a forward.
Well not a lot of things to celebrate this year so its cool to see the first all nba team for TP and the 12th for Tim. Other than that it's a season to forget.

Second team is incredible. There are over 400 guys in the NBA, only 15 of them make any All-NBA team.
Instead of being upset about it, be proud of how incredible Duncan's streak is.
Tim would probably be the first to say his play this year didn't warrant first-team all-NBA honors.

I'm a pretty big Duncan homer, I'm fine with second team. He started so strong but the tendonosis, combined with his left knee already bothering him, really impacted him from February on.
Based on the math, assuming Duncan was on all ballots, he got:
39 x 5 = 195 off 1st team votes
50 x 3 = 150 off 2nd team votes
33 x 1 = 33 off 3rd team votes
122 votes for 378 points
Dirk had to be off at least one ballot. If so, he got:
35 x 5 = 175 off 1st team votes
61 x 3 = 183 off 2nd team votes
25 x 1 = 25 off 3rd team votes
121 votes for 383 points
This is a total sham to think that 33 voters thought there were THREE other forwards in the NBA (besides Lebron), who were better than Duncan. What a joke.
You'd have to think that Dirk, Pierce, and Gasol were ALL better than Duncan to think that!

Duncan is easily the best defender and easily the best shot blocker.
Duncan is easily the best rebounder.
Duncan had the best assist/TO ratio.
Duncan was a clutch player, as the Spurs won a lot of close games.
Duncan's scoring is about the same as Gasol's and Pierce's and a couple baskets below Dirk.
Duncan shot over 50% as well.

And intangibles, Duncan is again the best of this group. Duncan sets picks like the ens and is the best team leader in the game. He does not showboat like Lebron (its fun for awhile, but wears thin)

Frankly, only 39 1st team votes (out of 122) for Tim is another EFFIN JOKE.
None of these other pretenders for the slot next to Lebron is even in Tim's league on D.
And Tim is better on offense than Pierce, Dirk or Gasol if you factor in offensive rebounding, passing, moving w/out the ball & pick setting. Tim's team plays at a slower pace which suppresses his stats.

Congrats to Parker, well deserved. I think Parker deserved 2nd team. He carried this ing team that started Bonner and Finley all season, and made opposing defenses look silly almost single handedly when the team was short handed.
If he were American-born, more people would rate him over Chris Fall.
