This WAS a good year for the Mavs players and coaches.

    1. they made in season progress
    2. they exceeded expectations

it doesn't have to be a le to be a good year. For example, it was also a good year for the THUNDER! They started 3-29 and many were wondering whether they would break the record for the worst year of all time. They played .400 ball over the last 50 games and showed a great deal of improvement. They also beat the Spurs twice

it wasn't a championship or bust year for the Mavs, it was obvious through the 1st 9 games. its unfortunate since the Mavs have a veteran roster, but the roster was poorly constructed and lacked talent/size/athleticism in key areas, so I'm proud of my boys

Next year when Big papa Cubes and Big Papa Donnie give Dirk some toys to play with, then it'll be a championship or bust year . Spurs fans are just bitter because all year they made fun of the Mavs finishing 8th/9th while asking "can we beat Lakers in WCF" yet the Mavs at the end made it farther than the Spurs, and beat the spurs along the way.
they exceeded expectations? I don't think they did unless getting out of the first round counts, I thought they made the Kidd trade to win it all, well I guess they got about 3 more years or so to do it, will be hard to do if they don't get a player that can help them though with all the great players like Lebron, Wade, and Melo in the league.

I usually don't agree with Ghazi, but yeah given all the uncertainty at the beginning of the season this was a positive end of the season. But next year Dallas has to make a move, not necessarily a complete reshufle of the roster, but they need one other big piece to go up a level.

Also, I hope some of the young players continue to improve. Bass didn't have as good of a regular season as last year I thought, but in the playoffs he got better. He has to continue working on that jumper, when it's on, he is a very tough cover. And he has to improve defensively, he has the physical tools.
Wright can and will improve. He'll never be a great scorer in the league, but he has to improve the 3pt corner shot just like Bowen did. He is a good defender, I hope he makes it a point of emphasis to continue improving there, as that is what will keep him in the league for a long time.
Same things for Green as well, talent is there, he just has to work at it.
Hollins has to add some weights, he is too light, even if that means losing a bit of athleticism. He can be a servicable big man if he also concentrates on defense.

The 2008-09 season had to have been the most up and down season for the Mavs and their fans.....

-numerous 30 point blow outs on the road
-losing to sub .500 teams on the road
    -starting 2-7, 0-4 at home
    -struggling to make the playoffs
    -finsih season strong
    -win 1st round series
    -Josh and his bum ankles
    -revolving door at SG
    -Game 3 of Denver series

    ...plus many more

I didn't say Melo was better then Dirk I said it will be hard to win in the next 3 years for the Mavs with all these good players Lebron, Wade, and Melo and the teams they are on if Mavs don't make a move that can help them they are pretty much screwed.

Dirk isn't better then Melo they are about the same both great players

The deep playoff run is more detrimental to the Mavericks than their fans realize. It gives Cuban and the coaching staff "false hope" and the belief that the team is better than it really is............it would have been better to flame out and miss the playoffs and force cuban to shake up the organization and make some moves to improve the team.

    False.

Winning 5 playoff games is not exactly a deep run, it means you weren't even halfway close to winning a championship.

Certain elements of this core (Dampier/Howard/Terry/Stackhouse) have been around for FIVE years now. the FO isn't dumb enough to think that guys who haven't gotten it done for 5 years (except for 2006) will suddenly figure it out. The Mavs have experienced 3 straight years of diminishing returns since their NBA le. It's time for some BIG shakeups, not just tweaks and a PG swap.

My boys are gonna be active this off season. Too many contracts on the team say "trade me" for them to stand pat.
