NBA referee Violet Palmer returns to college hoops
Violet Palmer is leaving the NBA after 12 years officiating games to become coordinator of women’s basketball officials for the West Coast Conference.
Her hiring was announced Thursday.
Palmer became the first woman to officiate a major U.S. professional sport when she made her NBA debut on Oct. 31, 1997. She has spent the last 12 seasons in the NBA, and officiated four playoff games and more than 700 regular season games. She also worked in the CBA and WNBA.
Before working in pro basketball, Palmer spent nine seasons officiating in the women’s college ranks. She worked five NCAA women’s Final Fours, and officiated in the West Coast Conference, Pac-10, WAC, Big Sky and Big West.
That's a good step. She was undoubtedly the worst ref in the NBA.
Any word on when Bavetta will go back to hosting Tales from the Crypt?
Too bad she couldn't drag Bennett Salvatore's incompetent ass out the door with her. Snitch-ass mother er.
1 bad ref gone. now for the mobsters mauer and salvatore
Make me a sandwich!
This
True, but Salvatore, Bavetta and Crawford (both) are missing the spot only by a whisker.
Behind every bad ref, there are two ready to take their place.![]()
I guess the NBA needs to find a new token female official that is about as unqualified for her job as it gets.
if she wasn't a woman she would have been gone a long time ago
Btw, in the article there is no sign of leaving the NBA totally: "Violet Palmer will become coordinator of women’s basketball officials for the West Coast Conference and continue to officiate in the NBA, where she has worked for 12 seasons.
Therefore, we can just hope that her new duties will afford a lot of time. Damn, I was also too quick and already celebrated her dismission.![]()
She was to NBA referees what Jemele Hill is to ESPN commentators:
She might not have any idea what she's doing/talking about, but her presence alone makes it impossible for annoying to accuse them of employment discrimination.
+1 She needs to just leave the NBA...forever...
