Who ever thought we could have such a finals series with the majority of players who were once thought they couldn't be great because they didn't play American D1 college basketball?

There is a great article about players from both teams who were drafted late or not even drafted at all on the Pistons official website, en led "Grand Theft Draft."

Some of the biggest late draft picks or undrafted players were Ben Wallace (undrafted; came to DET in G. Hill trade), Tayshaun Prince (late 1st rd '02), Tony Parker (late 1st rd '01), Manu Ginobili (late 2nd rd '99), and Bruce Bowen (undrafted, signed in '93).

I just gotta say hats off to Ginobili. If Duncan hadn't gotten MVP, Ginobili should have ran away with the thing. The NBA is lucky to have a team like the Spurs that are without the bigmouthed players that used to plague the league a few years back, only looking for more cash.

I thought Tayshaun was from UKansas? You don't get much bigger in D1 basketball than that.

That guy is a freak with those long arms. Hands down my fav. player on the pistons.

EDIT: You guys stole him w/ the late pic.

good points. both teams have certainly made an effort to scout international talent as well as overlooked domestic players and it's paid off.

    Naw, Tay was from Kentucky.

In his junior year, they played UNC at home and he scored 5 three-point baskets to open the game on a 15-8 run. He's off the chain.

I'd take Prince. I respect Billups... but i don't want him on my team, I just don't think he's fit. BUt I'd take Prince in a heartbeat.

There are alot of undrafted players who have provewn their worth (ehehm bruce bowenehehem) - they have developed in ot key role players and valuable teamates.
I think that just goes to prove that becoming a great BBall player takes time and most guys would benefit from the DL, college or a few yrs i nthe euros. Hey, if you play well at 18 or 19 there is no reason you can't play well at 21 or 23.... and if you can't play well after a few yrs - then you were an inconsistant fluke to start with.

Oops. Hey, I'm an Aggie, we just got a college BB team last year...

Awesome player, I wish the Spurs had him.

Now's your chance. He's a restricted Free Agent this year. I don't think Joe's going to let him go, and Tay's going to be getting one of a raise this year.

Umm, Joe Dumars better pony up to keep that boy, or somebody's going to. He's probably going to have to match a pretty high offer, unless he pulls a Manu and decides to stay w/ the Pistons regardless. Larry Brown's decision will probably play into that.

Both Ben and Tayshaun said they would stay with the Pistons for less money than they deserve just to keep the core group together. It is the same thing that Sheed did last summer when he took a paycut of $6 Million a year.

if prince is a restricted free agent then it's highly unlikely he leaves unless some team throws an above market deal his way.

as for ben wallace, im sure there will be a lot of $ thrown his way

That's what everybody expects. It's amazing how successful you get by doing that, isn't it? You'd think some ____ in this league would get a clue.
