    You did not get Ariza for free .

    You still had to pay for him, just did not have to use the MLE. He cost the same and goes on the books the same way.

    Why would the Lakers not want to do a S&T 2cleva?

    He had the surgery in October it wouldn't have done any good. Also keep in mind owners with no NBA knowledge like Sarver don't try to capitalize on stuff like this.
