I think for me that's part of the problem. I tend to be the kind of person that makes a real effort to keep in touch with the people in my life about whom I would want that information, so social networking sites fill a space that I don't need filled -- it's all status updates and gossip about people that I either know well enough to already know that stuff, or about whom I don't care enough to want to know it. As it is, I usually sign on about once a week to go through and take all the silly quizzes and accept all the silly items they've sent me, but I've already talked to all of them on the phone so I don't really need any information outside of that.

It's the gossip-y stuff that I love! Like the people I knew in high school that I added way back and now I know what there doing, but otherwise wouldn't. And have no reason to talk to them, except that we had "world Affairs" together as seniors. And those quizzes and everything bug me so much! I'm very selective about what kinds of things i add to my profile. If it doesn't add value I don't need it, bio, birth date, location, pictures, and maybe some bumperstickers, and causes. That's it. I take quizzes, but I don't publish them. I think, on a daily basis I "ignore" 3-5 of those things.

Those damn quizzes...my mom takes those and goes on for 10-15 minutes about how "How could I have been green? My favorite color is purple! I cannot believe it!" I'm like "Mom...take it again..some 12 year old wrote it. And i already saw it. You posted it on your wall. two seconds ago.and I'm sitting at my laptop on facebook at the same time....and you just walked out here to tell me that...from the den. crazy ."

I actually really like talking on the phone, so that works fine for people who aren't local. I've always been so spread out from my friends and family that talking on the phone is just what I'm accustomed to.

It's the gossip-y stuff that I love!

I generally hate gossip, so... not of much use to me.

It's funny I kinda picture people looking like their avatars. Like I always pictured Mardi to be that person from his last avatar. Or Funt to look like that woman in her's. Or Ash to look like that white girl as her avatar. I woulda thought that was her until you guys told me she was Mexican. Also for some reason I always thought that monkey in MannyisGod's Avatar looked liked him for some reason too.

Myspace is starting to turn into a kiddie site with everyone downloading loads of songs and all kinds of other crap to their pages. Facebook is the site for adults over a certain age I think.

Yeah I do. But I don't search it like I used to. I only talk to people on my current friends list and thats it. I have a facebook, but I don't maintain it any. Once I get all the people on my friends list face book name, I doubt I will use myspace anymore either.

I'm flying to Harbor, Wa. tomorrow, and my daughter who's been in 7 wrecks in 8 years is taking me to the airport. I guess if I make it to the airport alive, there's a good chance my plane won't crash!!! God I hate flying!

Mel and Ash, haven't I heard you say you all use Facebook for business purposes also? How does that work, do you keep separate social and business pages? Or walls or whatever they are called?

Most definitely separate pages! I wouldn't want my clients to see me call ashbeeigh a racist You can have more than one account, you just have to have separate email for each. I have three - one personal and two business.

I was brainstorming with the manager of our basketball team this evening and I was thinking I could adapt my page for their use. My page is a big blank and I don't care about it, so I could at least use it for something. Might be a good way to run off my "friends" and get the whole social/personal thing done with. I'm just not sure what this guy is trying to accomplish so I'll probably just start brand new.

Everyone I have on myspace I have on facebook. All my messages are "Join my mob!" now. I've thought about it. I keep it just in case I find someone from way back in the past. But otherwise, it's just sitting there collecting dust.

I'm a mega homebody. Unless I see you on a regular basis, work, church, you call me, or we make plans to go out...I don't see you. So facebook and twitter helps me keep in touch with what's going on in people's lives that I would otherwise not know about at all. Marriages, babies, changes at work, etc. Before it was just for trashy pictures and stupid messages. Now it's so much more. It's just interesting to see the evolution of it. I'm such a communications geek.

Especially now that I am 1500mi away from almost all of my friends. I don't think I will jump into the twitter world although it is a possiblity.

I haven't separated my facebook yet. By keeping mine free of extra crap, like "drinks" and "mob wars" and stuff I've kept it pretty professional. After graduation I thumbed through pictures that were a bit raunchy (or as raunchy as I get) and took them down. I have my facebook as private as it can get. You can't find me on google or any of the searches..unless you're an alum or a friend of a friend of a friend. You have to ask me for my name to find me. And even then it's kind of hard (I've tried).

I've contemplated splitting up my twitter, but it just sounds so hard. Now that I have work people, fashion people, and personal people following me it is kind of getting out hand. I may need to hire someone to split it all up.

Well, it was easy because i know your first and last name. I dunno if everyone knows that. If I had to go only on your first name, I am sure I would have had a much harder time.

And if you have your profile protected, what difference does it make if people find you or not? They can still only see your stuff if you accept a friend request.
