Dan, we didn't exactly "draft the line" that protected Bernie Kosar during his best years of 1986 and '87. The highest drafted guy on that line was Mike Baab, who was a 5th-rounder. We didn't have a single first-round pick on the front line of the receiving corps: Webster Slaughter was a 2nd-rounder, Brian Brennan was a 4th-rounder, and Reggie Langhorne was a 7th-rounder. How about the backfield? Nope- Earnest Byner was a 10th-rounder, Kevin Mack was a refugee from the USFL, and Herman Fontenot wasn't even drafted at all.
The only other 1st-round pick on that entire offense, besides Bernie, was Ozzie Newsome- and he was way over the hill by then anyway.
Point is, a quarterback can make an average supporting cast look a lot better than average if he's effective enough. And I'm of the belief that if we find the right guy at quarterback, he can come right in and make this team better.
