I have high hopes for the Mavs this season. Which of course means they will disappoint me royally. So I guess the Mavs lose this game.

So is he going to be behind Barea in the rotation? I think Beaubois should have more minutes as Kidd's back up
Same here. Less Barea is a good thing.

He was either fantastic or horrible, never anywhere in between. I dunno if Carlisle will trust someone that inconsistent. I hope at some point he becomes Kidd's primary backup tho.

imo he has a serious chance of breaking into the lineup this year. He already has Euro experience. Plus, he's twice the athlete Barea will ever be. I say he's backing up Kidd for 15 mins a game by January.

He'll get spot minutes here and there but he won't be anywhere near the playoff rotation or a consistent crunch-time contributor. He will contribute at some point this season though. There's a reason they brought him over here as a 19 year old rookie and didn't stash him in Europe.

Barea is what he is. He's good as a 15 mpg kind of guy.

If your "high hopes" means anything beyond the second round of the playoffs, then yeah, you're going to be disappointed.

    WCF is possible IMO.

Spurs arent good enough to crown their asses
Neither are the Blazers, Nuggets, Jazz

We're in the same ballpark boys!

I'm not complaining. Would you rather be a Suns fan right now?

Better to focus on the journey than fret about the destination. This roster isn't going to beat the Lakers in a 7-game series. Our only hope is a salary dump star + veteran buyout in February. Talk to me in February about the playoffs.

Heres a great post from MD that I am always reminded of when I hear people count their teams out.

"The smart analyst will pick all 30 teams to fail, and be right 97% of the time....as only one in thirty do not. So, being right more often than given credit for is essentially irrelevant, and actually inherent to being an analyst (at least on the side of accurately predicting failure).

Just out of curiosity, at the beginning of the season that saw the Mavs reach the Finals, how many predicted that? My guess is zero.

I'm not saying these "guesses" are incorrect, or invalidated, but they are what they are....which are simple guesses, especially when given at this date. Yes, they are probably right more than most will admit, but they are also wrong far more often than most will claim.

Honestly, you're en led to your opinion, but I can't understand why the fan of any reasonably good team, which you can't deny the Mavs are, chooses to give up before the season even starts, regardless of the warts you see. What's the point? Doesn't it ruin the experience for you? With that at ude, even if they somehow make the Finals, you'll be watching and expecting them to lose, which means you'd never take joy from their success. For me, it would appear you wreck your chance of enjoyment for no reason, other than to have the right to say "I told you so" should they lose.
Should they win it all, you'll find yourself smiling when it's over and thinking, "Wow, I really should have enjoyed that more. It may not be something I have the chance to live through again."
There's no harm in hope. Each new season is just that - a new season, a new hope, and another chance. Just because you tripped last time, doesn't guarantee you will this time. You never know, the wind may pick up at just the right moment, inflate your sails and carry you to the promised land.

This is a new season. Ok, they didn't do everything you (and most of us) thought they should or could, but they are a good team. The odds are against them. Of course, they are against every team, and yet, someone will win it all. I just don't understand sabotaging any chance of enjoyment just because you see a hole in their roster. To approach it that way, is to set yourself up to despise the team, and the experience of following them.

If that's the case, why even pay attention?"

^ All I'm saying is that my Mavs fandom isn't contigent on them winning a le. It's been 29 years and counting, so I would've hopped off the bandwagon long ago if it were. I hope like every year that they'll finally reach the promised land, but I don't NEED them to win a le to enjoy being a fan. It's not being fatalistic and cynical.

I know of two boards that post streams of the games if you want the links. That's how I'll have to watch the Mavs this season because I won't have the league pass.

2nd round is my minimum expectation. I honestly believe they're the 2nd best team in the West, but I know that the only way they beat the Lakers is if they turn the Dampier contract into another star player.

I noticed that too. I was hoping he would wear the headband again so he and Mike Miller could make this the "Gay Hair World Championship".
