There's 450 players in the NBA that they could be nice to but Dwade and Lebron both picked Kobe.
In 2008 I think it was a draw. In 2009 (prior to the ECF meltdown) I thought it was LeBron.
But right now, Kobe is the best player.
Kobe, without his 2 best players in Pau and Bynum, is leading the NBA in steals and scoring yet his team is still 5-1. There's only 1 team with a better record than the injured Lakers and that's a fully healthy Celtics team.
They know it's important for Kobe and they were teammates in team USA.
They're winning a lot of close games and having an easy schedule. Their Pythagorean record is not that good and that's the best metric for future success. Believe me, it will even out.
ps - unlike the conventional wisdom states, good teams don't win a lot more of close games than bad teams. Close games are mostly decided by luck and that's why most NBA teams, from the best to the worst, historically have similar records in close games. What differentiates good teams is their ability to have blow-out games.
