it really is. I hated it as a kid. Hated. Then one day I tried it and yumm. It's funny the look on whiteys face when they look at it for the first time. Brought some up to work for a pot luck and it was funny. They liked it though.

My grandma used to put anise candies in her capirotada. We all hated that---she wouldn't make a kid version for us.

I'm sure everyone makes it different. I get a pot of water, piloncio, onion, cinnamon sticks, and anise. Boil that then strain it so it's just liquid. then bread cheese and raisin to top of pan. Pour in liquid and bake.
