Don't go crazy with your money at the beginning. Some real bargains are waiting for you at the end if you save some $.
I joined a league & since this is my 1st time doing it auction style, outside of auctioning Manny to the Highest bidder, I'd like to hear what people familiar with the best auction game plans are.

Our league will have everyone pick a draft # & when our # comes up we can select a player for all to bid on. When everyone has $1 or less we start the sanke draft with the same draft #.
Should I select a player I do or don't want to bid on to start with?
I have some tips for you Mr. Dio, that is if you want to listen to the guy who as you once put it "diarreheas out of his mouth"...or something to that effect.
1. Create a budget. Decide where you want to spend your money...since you should know that the key to winning in a fantasy league is kick ass running backs...I would go with a 40/40/15/5 split between your RB's/WR's/QB's/Def-K. Stick to the budget, no matter how tempting it is to spend all your cash on Vick or Manning.
2. Don't Overspend. No matter how much you may want a player...don't overspend. Stick to your budget....There are great bargains midway thru your draft.
3. Be frugal when bidding on a QB. If you land say, Culpepper at your predetermined value...then do it. If not, be stingy as they'll be bargains for servicable QB's like Farve, Brees, or Bulger. You might also consider taking starter/backup combos from great offenses like the Rams.
4. 1$ Positions. Don't spend more than a dollar on your TE's unless you can get say a Gates, Heap, or Gonzalez within your budget. TE's are a dime a dozen during the draft and throughout the season.
5. Call out the "big names"...When your turn comes up, always call the biggest name on the board with no intention of buying him...most of the time other GM's will overbid on them...leaving them strapped for cash, while you can reap in good players with all your extra money.
6. Remember other owner's favorite teams. If the majority of owners like a specific team...for instance the Colts...then those players are going to have inflated values. Avoid them...you'll have more money to spend elsewhere.
7. Be flexible...your ability to recalculate your values will bey key.
Now...as for who should you try to land first with your #1 pick...well it kinda matters as to where you are selecting and who has been picked before you...but as with any fantasy league...it's always best to try to land the biggest RB possible.
Here's a shortcut to a great draft day prep plan for an auction draft: www.gridirongrumblings.com They have a list of the top 100 and position rankings with values already attached....you can then modify it to suit your opinions on the players.
Hope that helped you some...good luck...My last tip would to be to make sure Sean Alexander is on your team.
Dude, THANKS & you can't take people on here seriously..No the majority of us at least.
I saw that website & was trying to think of something really sneaky because I'm sure everyone will be nominating players they don't want to see others spend their cash.
It's 2005. Embrace it.
As if Heap is some sort of "elite" TE. I like Heap, but he is nowhere near Gonzo and Gates in value. He's somewhere around #6-8 on my TE depth chart.
