    How's the nsync forum going?
    I don't know, I live in 2010.

What? You're such a racist moron.

When did tourism come into conversation in this thread, dumbass? Oh, you just needed something to call back on so you could segway into dissing San Antonio, even if that something was made up. Bravo.

You think San Antonio is some paradise land that can support an NFL team. Get back to reality.

LOL, what's your problem? No penis envy, because you don't have one.

I called SA a paradise, where?

I said it can support an NFL team? Yeah I did, because it can and guess what, facts back me up.

So with that, again, what's your problem? Did some guy named Antonio bang your girl?

lol Buddy Holly getting pissed at anyone in this thread who doesn't agree with his fantasy that San Antonio is actually a nice city people want to visit.
While I know you are just baiting Buddy Holly into a flame war, I'd just like to point out San Antonio is rather high ranking as a leisure travel destination, although that is mostly regional from TX, OK, LA, NM, and Arkansas.

I guess this message board allows racist stuff.
This message board is largely unmoderated. Don't take anyone too seriously, especially when someone is aiming at a specific person.

Essentially the governmental powers that be around here are dead set against this fledgling league. Also included in the nay group is UTSA. This league is not a viable NFL replacement nor will it ever be. For San Antonio or anybody else. The best course of action for San Antonio to take as well as UTSA is to tell this fly-by-night outfit to go away.
But you must agree that we are not going to get an NFL team anytime soon and the right thing to do is support the football we can get.. UTSA is fine; but really do you think the dome will fill up for a game like UTSA vs McMurry or UTSA vs the University of Podunk. No, the best football we can get at this time is the UFL and we should support the San Antonio team. And for those like you that have illusions about the NFL coming to San Antonio, I'm sure the UFL will sign a lease stating that in the case we get an NFL team: the UFL team will vacate.

Supporting this little ufl is not the right thing to do for San Antonio. The only thing you'll get is a mostly empty stadium and another reason for the NFL to look down its nose at San Antonio. What could you expect on a good night with the ufl? 4000 or 5000 desperate souls on a Friday night in high school football country? I doubt it. No, I say let this sorry subs ute fade away and let's hold out for the NFL. It'll be worth it.

I pointed this out before, but the UFL averaged about 10k, and San Antonio has put up about 15k for each of its previous pro-real-football teams.

A bad night would be 10k, a good night 20k, in all likelihood.

And unless the NFL hits financial difficulty, they won't put a team in SA. Aka, not likely to see one in SA anytime soon.

The NFL is not coming any time soon, maybe not ever.

If the UFL can put some people in the seats and the dome can profit a bit from it, it'll be worth it.

It's like watching a bunch of weary travelers waiting to jump on a sinking ship. You know you won't reach your destination because the ship is already sinking. But you want to ride on it anyway just to say that you rode on it and got a little fresh air before you all sink to your watery deaths. This analogy seems to me to be quite accurate. Those that support this dying patient of a league have even said as much.

I look at this venture in terms of how it can help San Antonio get into the NFL, strictly. And I for the life of me I cannot see any redeeming qualities that could come from this town being in this league. Let alone helping the city in any way gain ground with the NFL and how it looks at candidate cities.

About the only, and believe me the only, redeeming aspect of having a ufl team in town would simply be the entertainment value. I mean just a bunch of people going down to the rockpile or Dome and grabbing a few beers and watching some low-quality football. That would be it.

The UFL coming or not and being successful or not will have little to no bearing on the NFL coming or not.

If the UFL in some form can help make the Alamodome not operate in the red or help them operate more in the black, I'm for it.

There's nothing that's going to help SA get in the NFL except for the NFL getting into much more serious financial troubles (like devaluing of TV contracts, etc)

Which is why most people want it to come. Other than providing small amounts of funds for the Alamodome (and whatever the UFL decides to contribute to the city in the form of donations), there IS no benefit other than entertainment.

Missions, Rampage, and Stars don't really bring any benefit but entertainment, so should we get rid of them?

There's not much in the way of negatives for allowing the UFL to play here, either, so why not?

If the UFL in some form can help make the Alamodome not operate in the red or help them operate more in the black, I'm for it.
Yup. Alamodome brings a lot of visitors to town. Getting it less red/more black is a good idea.

    http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/C..._with_UFL.html

Michael Sawaya says he wants to accommodate the UFL if the dome has the open dates and the UFL is willing to make a good business deal.

  13. #263
With that comment, the UFL will be here.

I can understand the UTSA concern, but the city cant really say no to a potential tenant in the dome.

Some interesting things for UFL fans. Not really anything new that's San Antonio specific.

    No it doesn't.

But I and a quite a few other people would like them to come here (as long as it doesn't cost the city anything).

Two teams have already relocated in the UFL and the league is only what? 1yr old? I dont know, doesnt sound stable at all to me. Anyone investing in the UFL would be throwing their money away IMHO.

  21. #271
No startup league is stable. Go back and look at the relocation/fold rate of the NFL and NBA in the early going.

The one's that moved are ones that shared a market with the NFL. The UFL was very pleased with the response in Vegas and Orlando, considering they didn't have a real marketing campaign last year.

But yeah, investing in any new sports league is pretty much a guaranteed loss of investment. If it succeeds, the returns are huge, but it's pretty much guaranteed to be a loss.

Doesn't affect me, and shouldn't affect the city, so I don't mind

Burns was talking this morning about the NFL buying a big share of it and turning it into a minor league system where teams can call up players if need be.

One of the reasons he mentioned would be that it would be beneficial for the NFL in case of a players' strike. They wouldn't be able to go play for the UFL since the NFL would own it.

I wouldn't mind seeing that, although I don't see a minor league team filling up the dome.

Ahhhhh, kind of like the D-league. Hmmm, I still dont know. I think San Antonio is beyond 2nd tier Pro franchises. I could see the UFL in Austin or Waco..........but here? I think it would fail. *shrugs*

  24. #274
It's not like SA is ever going to have a top tier pro football team. :p

  25. #275
When it comes to pro football San Antonio will have to settle for the next best thing.
That's just the way it is. We were not big enough or didn't have the right stadium at the right time. Dallas and Houston were way ahead of us and had individuals who were willing to invest. Now the NFL is all powerful and it is the largest and richest sports league in the country . It does not need to expand. However, San Antonio was in the right place, at the right time and had investors for pro basketball . That's why we have the Spurs.
But, if you want to watch regular season pro football in person and cheer for the San Antonio team; it has to be the UFL. Let's at least give it a chance.
