Yeah, it's hard not to root for the guy after all he's been through and how well he comes off in interviews.
Well, he is still young so he can there is still hope but I think that his chances to be one day signed by Spurs is in the 1% area.
It's still great for him that he has been able to be back at a good level in Europe after all his injuries.
Yeah, it's hard not to root for the guy after all he's been through and how well he comes off in interviews.
There's a rumour he'll sign with Real Madrid very soon.
It's surprising to see him going to a that big team.
Madrid's GM worked for Spurs last year. I guess he knows very well Sanikidze and that's why they choose him.
Do you guys consider this a good move or not? How has he played this season? and it seems like this move will be the one to either get him to the nba (if he plays well) or will be his ticket for a career in europe (if he does not).
i asked him on his facebook if he is going to play for the spurs next year and he just replied "haven't heard nothing yet, well see this summer" doesnt sound too good hes a okay player but we picked him over trevor ariza is the only thing that has bothered me
Sanikidze's season is over, Bologna lost 3-1 to Hairston's Siena team.
Sanikidze goes out with 13 and 8, 3-3 on threes. In the playoffs he averaged 7 pts and 9.5 rebounds in 31 mpg. 46.2% from 2, 57.1% from 3. 50% total fg%.
Sanikidze made the Italian league All-Star game this year as a reserve. In the regular season he averaged 22 mpg, 7.7 pts, 6.8 rebounds. 61.9% from 2, 36.2% from 3. 52.7% total fg%.
Realistically due to the lockout I don't imagine that Sanikidze is even an option. Even if the Spurs wanted him I doubt he'd wait out a work stoppage to sign a contract.
FWIW Jeff McDonald had posted in a comment section at the express that Sanikidze was no longer listed amongst Spurs rights-held players from the official sources. This was in response to a poster that pointed out his absence from a McDonald rights-held piece. McDonald did say he would investigate to find out why, but in the weeks that followed I never saw any update; I presume McDonald just went back to drinking and forgot about old Sanikidze.
I still would like to have Sanikidze be a Spur. He's a role player, but he plays his role with passion. He'd only be an 8th-12th man realistically, but he'd play his role to his utmost. He's rebuilt his career nicely, having to start over in the Georgian league to up in Estonia to now an Italian league all-star. I think he'd make a positive impact for SA and does have legit 'smallball 4' size and rebounding/shotblocking skills, and can spread the floor with his funky shot. Maybe can play the 3 depending on matchups.
Instead we'll be stuck with lazy paid Richard Jefferson and flustered Matt Bonner.
Joy.
fwiw, Sanikidze was named to the All-Defense team in the Italian league.
He and DeColo should get together and go bowling.
Here are Viktor's stats for 2011 Eurobasket:

Georgia vs. Macedonia (Second Round)

^^ Good rebounding
Viktor and Georgia are in a close game right now: tied at 63 with 16 sec left in the 4th: http://live.fibaeurope.com/www/Game....ID=9788&lng=en
Bo McCalebb hit the game winning shot for Macedonia (looks like he was a 1 man offense today).
Viktor had 15 pts and 7 boards
I was encouraged until KBP praised him.
Does look like he's been having a very good tournament.
Sanikidze stats are a little misleading on his level. He plays very hard and is a good athlete for an Euro but aside of that, there are very almost nothing left. He can't shoot, dribble, pass, post up...
Sanikidze is a fun guy to watch and it's great that he is able to play at that level after all his injuries but he is nowhere near the NBA level.

I had quite a good season this year, and I had a chance to play in the USA but NBA announced Lockout, it’s a kind of strike and until February I’ll not have a chance to play there, however I am still in contact with one of the NBA teams,” Sanikidze said.
Sounds like Viktor thinks he might be NBA bound when the NBA resumes. Interesting.
Georgia is playing Finland right now: http://live.fibaeurope.com/www/Game....ID=9792&lng=en
Viktor has 10 pts and 4 boards currently
Georgia's best player again today.
italian league contract ends 6/30
statistically he's been having a very good year in Italy, though the little I've seen of him I thought he looked like he might have lost a step defensively. He does play a heavy amount of minutes for euro ball, 31.5 per game.
So far, his individual stats and league ranks:
13.9 points (19th in the league)
10.2 rebounds (1st, leading the league; 1st in defensive rebounds, 5th offensive; 4th in the league adjusted per 40 minutes)
0.8 blocks (8th; 19th adjusted per 40)
50.4 % from the field
38.9 % from 3 on 4.2 attempts per game (18th in the league % wise)
Sounds like if he was ever going to come over, I'd be this summer.
I'm looking at him now, playing in the italian league...just a frst impression, but looks not bad at all...

San Antonio Spurs scouts Dennis Lindsey and Claudio Crippa will be in Turin in weekend for Italian Cup Final Eight to watch Viktor Sanikidze
