Former Oakland Raiders center Barret Robbins was in the Bexar County Jail this morning after police found a small amount of marijuana on the former All-Pro during a 3:30 a.m. traffic stop downtown in the 400 block of West Commerce.
He was arrested without incident after a search produced a clear baggie of marijuana, police said. A marijuana pipe was found in the center consol of Robbin's car.
Robbins, who played 10 seasons with the Raiders, was best known for disappearing before the 2003 Super Bowl. He later said he suffered from bipolar disorder.
He was released by the Raiders in July 2004 after testing positive for steroids.
Off the field, Robbins had oftentimes found himself in trouble with the law.
In January, Robbins was shot several times during a struggle with a police officer in Miami Beach. He plead innocent to three counts of attempted murder in that incident and had been out of jail under a $51,000 bond, according to a Florida newspaper.
In December, he was arrested in San Francisco for hitting a security guard at a hotel bar.
Early this morning, Robbins was stopped by a downtown bike police officer for driving recklessly, according to a police report.
The officer reported that a strong odor of marijuana was emanating from Robbins' open window, and that the pipe was in plain view.
The burly Robbins pulled over without incident and police found the weed tucked inside a wad of one- and five-dollar bills, the report states.
Robbins was being held on an $800 bond.
It was not immediately clear what Robbins was doing in San Antonio. He gave police an address in the East Texas town of Flint, south of Tyler.
A male passenger in Robbins' car was passed out and arrested also.
The passenger faced a possible public intoxication charge.
