Take Barbosa and they have a deal
In their quest to land either of the top two free-agent power forwards – Chris Bosh or Amar’e Stoudemire – the Houston Rockets have been offering Trevor Ariza, Shane Battier and free agent Luis Scola in potential sign-and-trade packages, league sources said.
Scola obviously would have to agree to a sign-and-trade because he’s a free agent. If the Rockets can’t get either Bosh or Stoudemire, they will push forward in negotiations to re-sign Scola.

The local Phoenix people know it to. Just please take Barbosa and Daryl Morey will always hold a warm spot in my heart![]()
lol rockets tryn get something for peanuts.....
He is one of the most credible and connected guy's covering the NBA.
Just to be clear, it isn't a package of Scola + Battier + Ariza. It's Scola + Battier or Scola + Ariza. Also, they would just be the main players in the deal.
That's not really saying much. I don't care who he is, nobody is going to tell him what their offers consist of. I doubt they would tell Toronto until Bosh said he wanted to go to Houston. I smell bullpatties.
Looks like we are not getting Amare or Bosh.
Anytime you hear a Rockets rumor, you can assume that it is not true.
There was no Artest rumor (Stat rumor), no Martin rumor (Trading with Knicks, Getting Stat rumor, Iggy Rumor), no drafting Patty (Every mock had just drafting Whiteside)
Battier 31 and expiring
Scola 30 S&T demanding his big retirement payday contract
Overrated chucker sitting on a long MLE deal
Great value...
that's why they've only targeted on Amaré and Bosh instead of anyone on the name list including Lebron, Wade, Joe Johnson etc.... Ariza was a pivotal member on Lakers 09' champion squad, Battier is one of the most famous defensive specialists and I believe the 31yr old still has some good years to play considering how great Bruce Bowen still was at age 35. Scola is rather old right now and is likely to get overpaid, his involvement here I believe is just for the only purpose of making salaries match. Ariza and Battier are what the Suns want IMHO. Raptors are going to start a new round of rebuilding anyway so it doesn't matter how much the receiving will contribute to their tactics. Battier brings the method of defense that Suns have never got, and Battier can also be used as a PF in Suns run-and-gun system.
No, Raptors and Suns will be anyway in a kind of rebuilding stage after Bosh and Amare and thats all players they do not want in such a progress.
Battier would probably sign a year later with a better (contender) team. Scola is too old and will sit on an overpaid contract. Doesnt fit in a rebuilding team and doesnt have a huge trade value.
Ariza shined as 4th banana on the Lakers. In Houston he was a pretty blind chucker. His contract is too big for such a roleplayer. Teams can sign Ronnie Brewer for less.
F**** that.
Scola gives 70% of the production on crazy efficiency and a tenth of the price. We need to hang on to luis.
Don't think so. Scola is looking to get paid and paid now - I imagine he will see a 5/50 type deal. A starting point would be the Gooden deal that Milwaukee handed out.
With the CBA up next year with many possible changes to the salary cap/etc, that is why players have opted out while they know the rules.
Scola will not take the qualifying offer for one year. He will get paid or leave. Besides, a sign and trade will require a fairly sizable contract to allow Houston to take on a big contract. Houston does have the right of first refusal since he is a restricted FA.
Scola, Battier, Ariza, Knicks pick, for Bosh and Turkoglu
k, Amare and Barbacoa for Battie, Scola, and Ariza.
scola is the next hakeem who wouldn't want him?
All reports that I have read have both Ariza AND Battier included which makes FAR more sense. Honestly, you think a combination of Scola and just one of the other guys is enough to get it done? Given that, why would Bosh agree to go to Houston over a chance to play with James and/or DWade?
No. If the Suns deal Amare, it needs to be for inexpensive, young talent.
I'd demand Hill be in the deal, and would push for the Knicks 1sts.
Suns could do Ariza/Jeffries/Hill/Knicks 1sts
Houston keeps most of the valuable pieces for contention, Suns get one solid PF prospect, a good SF and two 1sts for the future.
Rockets get to roll out a lineup of
PG: Brooks, Lowery (rfa)
SG: Martin, Budinger
SF: Battier, Patterson
PF: Scola, Hayes
C: Amare, Yao (Yao and Amare likely start if Yao is healthy)
How in the world did Houston get Scola from the Spurs?
Matt Bonner needed paying.
Amare will never agree to go to Houston. No way.
There's about a thousand Scola threads. Some amusing reading if you have the time.
Short answer is money. His rights were traded along with a bad contract to position the Spurs to avoid the tax.
