Wow. Matt Bonner is Pop's Michael Finely. He'll continue to suck his balls while giving him way too many minutes.

    The Spurs are done....

For the vet min I said I'd be ok with it.

Nothing I can do about it so I'm not gonna let it ruin my day off season or fandom as it does to these wahoos.
lol you were freaking out when RJ opt-ed out. IMO this is pretty bad too. Bonner eating up 3million+ in cap space and here for 4 more years with the potential of him barely playing. ing waste.

You can't just say "Bonner... noooo!" without context. The real question is not the value of Matt Bonner, it's his value compared to the replacement you could get at that price. You also have to factor in the time and energy to get the replacement to learn the system and fit into the team's style and strategy.

You can't really get NBA-capable NBA-experienced non-disruptive non-head-case hard-working big men at a much lower price than this. Name me one and I'll shut up.
I don't disagree with the premise, I've stated as much -- the Spurs aren't likely to find a better player for that role.

But it's not that some of us begrudge him getting paid, it's what that inevitable means: significant playing time.

I wasn't against him coming back at a reduced rate and role behind Duncan, Splitter, Blair and 'Dyess, but some were convinced he'd never be behind all of them regardless of what he was getting paid. I figured the Spurs would be fine.

But to give him a raise and long-term contract?

There's no doubt the Spurs view him as a necessary and real component to their team and its success.

That's why the baby seals and unicorns find themselves seeking shelter . . .

People acting like it's armageddon. This likely has no impact on negotiations with their #1 free agent target. He fits a role on the team (PF that shoots over 40% from 3) that isn't easily duplicated, especially for what the Spurs had available to spend.

I don't like his playoff non-performances anymore than the rest of you, but what guarantee do we have that the replacement player is better? This re-signing was inevitable.

In a way, I'm glad that Finley requested to be traded. I don't want to imagine the extension they would have offered him this summer.

This fetish Pop has for some players is just beyond reasonable.

This is got damn horrible news. Bonner is a decent signing for LLE money. Four years and $14M or whatever the F is just stupid. He's a proven choker who should be a fifth bigman this season.

    Ungotdamnbelievable

Pretty bad when your handing $15 million to a guy who everybody hopes won't even be on the floor.

No man, the problem is that signing guys like this puts us farther from contention than closer. And the window opening was already pretty thin, if open at all.

You want everyone to really panic? What if they did this because He's not going to be the fifth big because Splitter isn't coming over?

@ us if we miss out on both Scola and Splitter because of Bonner.

And if Spurs have truly spend more than $12M on Bonner, they have no excuses not to offer the full MLE to Splitter if it what it takes to get him or a max extension to Parker.

When you waste that much money on Bonner, there are no legit financial excuses.

So would you feel more comfortable hearing it from Wojo or the guy who's actually supposedly re-signing?

If the latter, read here: http://www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Concord's+Bonner+re-ups+with+the+Spurs&articleId=587d54f6-bb06-4a60-8fc0-85c828bf54fd

Bringing Bonner back is alright, I guess. But for this kind of money? It sounds so incredibly stupid I still hope it's a joke.

What was the FO thinking? Are they afraid the Warriors could lure him to Oakland to counter the Heat with their own version of the Big Three in Lee, Ellis and Bonner or something like that?

The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to terms to resign their free-agent Matt Bonner with a four-year contract extension:
the Concord native agreed to terms with the Spurs on a four-year contract extension through the 2013-2014 season.
"I'm just very excited. I'm really happy things worked out, and I can go back to San Antonio. I'm really looking forward to the future," Bonner said.
The new contract is expected to exceed the annual salary of $3.2 million he earned last season.

"In the end, if San Antonio was going to make a fair deal and give me a long-term contract, that's what I was looking for at this point in my career," Bonner said. "To not have to uproot my family and my living situation and go back where I'm established and where my daughter was born, it's a great feeling.

"That's the kind of long-term stability I was looking for at this point in my career. I get to exhale and start getting ready for next year.
Four years is a bit long in my opinion but it seems he did come "cheap" by NBA standards. The good thing now is that Spurs fans won't have to burn their Bonner jerseys a la Cleveland Cavaliers fans when LeBron James decided to join the Miami Heat.
Now if he can only show up in games when it really matters -- the playoffs!
Thoughts Spurs fans? Go ahead and chime in!

Spurs might as well trade Parker now just to keep the trend going in this cluster of an off-season.

I've seen one article that's all I'm sayin,
    With quotes from Matt Bonner.

Its not like Matt Bonner was going to go on ESPN and have a one hour special about where he signs. He's Matt ing Bonner.
