Bonner should have gotten that deal. Then again, perhaps he did.

All things considered it is possible that the Bonner hometown paper might have fudged the numbers a little / assumed some stuff for a local guy makes good story - and I think that paper is still the only place where the salary is mentioned.

    Hopefully SB is right...
Or maybe we didn't sign Bonner at all!

3/10 would come out to roughly 3.03, 3.33, 3.64 for the three years. This leaves around $2.75M in the MLE.

I'd still be quite surprised if this were true.

Wow just wow. Tiago's going to fight Bonner in the locker room once he plays side by side with him.

Didn't Tiago have to come up with something like $1.2 mill to buy out his current contract? If so he (and McD is correct) is basically working for the LLE this year ...

Maybe Bonner's deal was something like 5 years, $15 mil.

So Bonner's contract is the new Malik Rose contract, and Splitter's contract is the new Ginobili (first) contract.

This makes me think Bonners contract is a 4 year 8 million deal. Thats a very fair deal for a player like Bonner.

I was fairly confident (or at least extremely hopeful ) that it wouldn't take the full MLE . Bruno had me convinced. I made a post shortly after Jefferson opted out questioning whether or not it was really a safe assumption that it would take the full MLE and I was told that it was conventional wisdom that it would.

This is WONDERFUL news, if true.

As long as the Spurs employee his ass it stays or I might change it to just Bonner then add Spurs the first minute of playing time he gets in the new season.

Just heard on the news, that he is going to make just under 5.8 mil per.
What news channel? Perhaps they were just basing that off of the assumption that he was going to get the full MLE.

That would be the MLE amount. I don't know how much I trust the EN to break something like this accurately.

Where is Ludden when you need him?

I don't believe this. I'm sure that Arn Tellem got more for his client than that...

If true (hard to believe), then...

    Re-sign Jefferson to something reasonable.
Use the remainder of the MLE and/or LLE to round out the 2 and 3. With Jefferson back in the fold, the Spurs could take a gamble on a Josh Howard. Other candidates would be Raja Bell, Jarvis Hayes, and Matt Barnes.

    Starters
    1 Parker
    2 Ginobili
    3 Jefferson
    4 Duncan
    5 Splitter

    Bench
    1 Hill
    2 Bell
    2/3 Anderson
    3 Howard
    4 Blair
    4 Bonner
    4/5 McDyess

Please if some cap gurus can enlight me on this.

If Splitter deal is finally structured as 3.03, 3.33, 3.64 for the 3 years. Does all of this come out of the MLE?
I ask because by the rookie scale contract exception, we could have signed splitter to a contract worth 0.7823, 0.841 and 0.8997 for the first 3 years without counting against the MLE.

My question is, does the total ammount of the count against the MLE or only the difference between the contract given vs the Rookie Scale Contract for a 2007 28th pick???
