Breaking News: Lakers To Resign Shannon Brown, T-Mac No Longer An Option
By John Haverford (Contributor) on July 15, 2010 136
With veteran guard Raja Bell spurning the Lakers to play for the Utah Jazz, the Lakers have decided to extend a multi-year contract offer to guard Shannon Brown using the remaining portion of the MLE.
Shannon Brown's agent Mark Bartelstein indicated that the guard will likely accept the Lakers' offer after receiving unappealing offers from other teams, including Utah and Indiana.
Brown quickly became a fan favorite in Los Angeles with his high-flying dunks and hustle after the Lakers acquired him from the Charlotte Bobcats in the middle of the 2009 season. He averaged 8.1 points and 2.2 rebounds this season in a little over 20 minutes a game.
With Brown on board, the Lakers seem set with their guard rotation for the 2010-2011 NBA season, and will not contact veteran guard Tracy McGrady.
The Lakers' front office became irritated after reports surfaced that the former All-Star was willing to sign for the veteran's minimum with the Miami Heat.
The Los Angeles Lakers will now turn their attention to signing a backup center from the likes of Kurt Thomas, Joe Smith, or Theo Ratliff. The Lakers also have interest in former Utah Jazz guard Ronnie Brewer, but understandably do not have the financial means to sign him.
Shannon fizzled out in playoffs. IF he stops trying to be Kobe he is a GREAT role player, but when he thinks he's kobe he sucks
I remember how Brown was playing so well this year before a game against Orlando where he hit all kinds of crazy shots and scored 20+ points. From then on he played like a jackass. If LA gets him back to November-December form then he's a beast.
Well another dream shot in the ass.
I won't kick Brown out of bed for fartin', but, he ain't my druthers.
lolol
"Lakers became irritated when they heard he wanted to sign with miami for minimum"
hahahaaha buttttttttthurrrttttt
Yer still Dallas & Forever, squirt.
Bell is more proven ...
But we would of become even more slow and less athletic if we signed Bell ...
My final hopes is to sign Brown and dangle Sasha's expiring ... for an athletic defending wing even if they can not shoot the 3 ronnie Brewer is ok but I'd rather Corey Brewer... with some work on his jumper bring a lot of what Trevor brought us ...
"No longer in option"
what's the average IQ of lakerfan?
16.
tee, hee.
You must not be paying attention to the Trevor Ariza look alike LA drafted this year.
