Despite signing three players since last Friday, New Orleans Hornets General Manager Dell Demps said they have not finalized what direction they may go toward filling their vacant backup point guard spot.
But one option under consideration is bringing back guard Jannero Pargo, a free agent who played for the Hornets from 2006-08.
Pargo, who is a close friend of starting point guard Chris Paul, has been working out with Hornets' players at the Alario Center. Pargo played for the Chicago Bulls last season and averaged 5.5 points in 63 games. When the Hornets won a franchise-record 56 games in 2007-08, Pargo was the top backup off the bench, averaging 8.1 points.
"Pargo is a guy that we are looking at,'' Demps said. "Pargo came to town to visit Chris. He had some workouts here and Pargo came as Chris' guest. Chris talked to us. Pargo talked to us. We're trying to figure what we are going to do with the backup point guard position and we're still in the decision-making process.''
After signing forward Joe Alexander on Monday, the Hornets' training camp roster now stands at 15. New Orleans is expected to sign small forward Pops Mensah- Bonsu later this week.
However, the Hornets currently have only 11 players with guaranteed contracts. Last week, New Orleans signed shooting guard D.J. Strawberry and center Darryl Watkins to partially guaranteed contracts. And last month, the Hornets signed backup point guard Mustafa Shakur to a partially guaranteed contract.
"Sometimes you want to leave the spot open, and say who really wants it, then let it be decided on the court,'' Demps said. "But another thought say lets go get a proven guy. I'm not at all hesistant about leaving it open for compe ion, but that could change by tomorrow.''

No, what cost them that game was Chris Paul deferring to Jannero f*cking Pargo in a game 7.
lol deferring to Jannero Pargo
This is in hope to lock Paul up for a few more years.
If it makes Paul more content to stay I say sign him...but Downtown Devin Brown needs to be brought back as well. Paul needs TWO scoring threats to defer to in a critical game situation!
I thought Golden State signed Pargo? Or did they back out?
sons Pargo will be hit or miss ... he hasn't truly played in about 2 years. his overseas season simply doesn't count because he was playing against mostly white men and last season he rode the bench.
sons the whole hornets team is a hit or miss
Good for them. The Hornets need a go-to guy who doesn't hide from the moment in crunchtime. Should help them out.
Jannero "mutha in" Pargo almost won Game 7 for us because he didn't defer.
I'm truly convinced the Spurs trained Dell Demps to sabotage the Hornet organization. This clown has made two awful trades already and still hasn't improved the team's cap space.
Preach it brother, preach it!![]()
Pargo better not play much. He's been terrible for a while.
