The NBA is implementing a dress code upon its coaches this season.

Coaches can no longer wear mock turtlenecks under their suit jacket, as they will be required to wear a collared shirt.

"I want them to at least name the rule after me," Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "Somebody has their Bird rights. Larry Bird got that rule named after him. I want it to be the Van Gundy Rule."

"I don't like that," Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "I really like Stan's style. I thought Stan really set the bar for the dress code. I think he should stay with that. I think it's nice."

How is mock turtle as self expression different from 100s of tatoos?

I am glad that these coaches are getting the help that they so desperately need…The NBA is a business…The disheveled look of coaches like Van Gundy or Popavich would never be tolerated in the REAL world of Business…I wonder if they now could be helped with their coaching skills?

Dude- Don’t tell me that Van Gundy or Pop wouldn’t benefit from a coaching & appropriate dress clinic put on by Zen, Riles or Byron….

Technically, those Larry the Cable Guy collared "dress" shirts are completely acceptable.

Or Ron can try to trick Stern and wear one of these bad boys.

There's a lot to criticize about the dictator, but at least personally, I don't think all he's done has been bad. How he's been able to expand the NBA brand on a global level has been really good for the league. Now if he took the same type of effort and ambition into making sure the quality of the product stays high and that his rules and how they are officiated stay consistent and regulated, then I would really have no problem with him. People get on Stern for the officiating, but a lot of that is on individual officials themselves. People also get on him for superstar bias, and I think that's a fair criticism. But I also think he uses that as a necessary tool to market and expand the NBA brand. He's a dictator. But I also think he's done a lot of good for the NBA too.
