While the difference with MJ is abysmal, Magic is still better by considerable margins and Oscar was probably more talented, other than them it's questionable if West was better, or if Wade or Chris Paul are going to be better than Kobe when it's all said and done.

On the other hand, Kobe played 14 seasons being one of the best NBA players but his dominance was never such to think he's some GOAT player. Hence he has only 1 MVP award and his finals performances were too weak by GOAT standards, except for the 2009 season.

He's 32, perhaps he can still work to cement his legacy.

he should be AND finish top5 as a guard (like you said mj, magic, oscar and west) and top25 as a player...maybe top20!

that said: MJ isn't far off IMO!

yeah, but without Jordan he went to the second round and nearly finish off NY, while kobe stank up the Phoenix series when Shaq left!

Whereas Kobe came back and rang/sans Daddy, Pippen never rang/sans MJ.

That's obvious, more than half the top 10 players were/are forwards or centers.
basically half of them are centers

didn't have too, as he was a good enough teammate to live as second banana.

but feels good to have the kobe-pippen conversation now!

it makes a lot more sense

Laker fans are so ridiculous. If Shaq had stayed and Kobe had left, they would remember Kobe as a role player on some of Shaq's teams.

    Now he's GOAT.

    A course not.

Kobe had to though, until he actually did and then we didn't want to talk about that no more, eh?

Not yet, but, he's definitely loitering that neighborhood. Another ring and we'll have to get down to brass tacks. Two more and we're gonna stack bricks 'till the cows come home.

All I can see is those last two years in D.C.

    Oh, me---Oh, my.

They are in memory. Actual footage? I don't believe exists.
You should remember. Even at 39 years old Jordan could still put Kobe in his place.

LOL I thought MJ was a terrible judge of talent and therefore his opinion doesn't matter? Oh right, it only doesn't matter when he's praising Kobe.

    Pathetic.

Pip didn't drive mj out of town!

I think, while comparing Pippen to Kobe or Kobe with anyone else, thats the biggest in his armor:

He always seemed to be the guy, that wanted to become the GOAT...to the point where wasn't because of it.

Do I like LeBrons behaviour, taking the easy way? no! and that's why LeBron ended all the MJ-comparisons this summer for once and all time.

But what do you prefer? A guy, that really was about winning ships, or a guy, that drove the best player out of town, sourrendering some championships just because he wanted to show, he is soooo great?

I tell you: If Kobe would have been a better teammate, the Lakers would have 2-3 more championships (2 of them probably now in Spurs hands...thanks man!)

Why do people continue to insist that Kobe drove Shaq out of LA when pretty much everyone involved says it wasn't Kobe. It was Jerry Buss and Shaq. Buss not paying Shaq and Shaq causing beef with Buss is why he got shipped out. They all say that. Now did Kobe snitching on Shaq and having his own issues with Shaq make it an easier decision? Sure. But it was still on Buss. Kobe didn't drive Shaq out of town. And some people still try to twist it as being the case.

It sells better that way, Jose. There was no money to made by fitting Shaq with the hair shirt upon leaving L.A.

The timing was strange, the day after Shaq was traded, Kobe re-signed with the Lakers. Kobe didn't want to play with Shaq in the same team, that was clear. He also didn't want to play for Phil Jax, but later changed his opinion.

It was strange how the Lakers signed Payton for the MLE, he was an all-star the previous season and Malone (21 ppg, 8 rpg, 5 apg) signed for the vet min when the Spurs offered $10M. Shaq lured that players, who know how.

It seems that Buss had broke some promises, because Shaq yelled at him "where is my money" or something like that. Perhaps he was offered a big contract should he get Payton and Malone to sign with the Lakers or perhaps he paid them.

They'd skimmed the top off Daddy. Kobe forewarned Buss: "You can have one of us, but, not both, so choose." In hindsight Buss made the correct choice. Kobe has held his feet to the fire in the intervening years whereas Daddy woulda just sloughed at the trough year in/year out.

what i dont get with the kobe fans:

they insist kobe wasnt a sidekick to shaq, when he himself has said he was

they insist kobe is as good as jordan, when he himself says he isnt

they insist he is the player of his generation, one of the best all time, and the lakers one of the best franchises of all time, yet they lost two finals they were favorites in (pistons 04, 2 baskets away from a sweep, and celtics 08 which included the biggest finals blowout of all time). should we be having billups/ pierce top 10 all time arguments too?

    Uh, what?

Ok, if you don't believe his opinion on the "Kobe is a top 10 guard all time", then you have to take his opinion on "Kobe > LeBron" with a huge grain of salt...can't have it both ways brah

Ahh, another Kobe Lover/Hater pissing contest. Have fun girls!

To answer the question, Kobe is a top 10 and a top 5 all timer guard. Above him are MJ and Magic. Right there with him are Oscar Robertson and Jerry West. I put Kobe at number 5. Who else could crack that list? Be realistic, it's hard to find candidates among the NBA top 50 at 50. The newer players are too new or not at Kobe's level.

Eh, i honestly don't care what Jordan has to say either way. I respect and loved watching him as a player but that's it. He's a very petty and egotistical man. We all saw this when he give his HOF speech.
