Rockets to keep guard Taylor, won't sign center Dampier
    By JONATHAN FEIGEN

The Rockets told second-year guard Jermaine Taylor on Sunday they would not release him because they no longer planned to sign center Erick Dampier, Taylor’s agent Michael Whitaker said before Sunday’s game.

“I was actually told that I’m here to stay,” Taylor said. “They told me I was here.

“I’m happy to still be here and still have a job, but then again, I kind of wonder what would have happened if I went somewhere else. I won’t get any playing time here with guys like Courtney Lee, Kevin Martin, unless they get hurt. I kind of know if I went somewhere else, I would have had a chance to play. I have mixed feelings about it.”

Taylor said he regretted sending a tweet last week saying he felt he had been lied to because it was assumed to have been directed at the Rockets. He said it was actually meant for his agent, Michael Whitaker, who had been telling him when he would hear news.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was unavailable for comment.

Still think OKC is the best fit. They don't NEED him ...because they aint winning this year anyway but he would of helped vs. Celts tonight ...

This should be a no-brainer for Riley..he better have some kind of master plan at the deadline if he doesn't acquire Dampier right now..

dampier would be a good cover for our existing centers though. if the 2nd best center accepts our minimum offer then he is a good signing. miller has been function fine in adelman's princeton offense but he's a steep liability on the other hand of floor with no rebound. yao is limited to only 24min a game and has to miss games regularly, and even when he is playing on court he's nothing like he used to be. dampier would be a great dub for yao, especially when the opposing center is a tough dog like tyson chander.

chuck hayes is fine confronting soft asses but he's severely undersized, hence he is easily crominated when/if his opponent has both height and strength (like tyson chandler).
