    Tonight's attendance = 10,866

This is the reason though according to a diehard Hornets fan!

That fan knows what he is talking about, tbh. Can't blame him. They need a King on their team to command the loyal subjects. No one listens to a prince.

Who cares about Hornets attendance right now. It's still football season. The fans will come some time after the new year. The offseason was horrible as far as PR when it came to the Hornets. Optimism was at an all-time low. These things take care of itself.

The big problem is the team ed ticket prices for certain games like the Heat, Lakers, and the Spurs game. The Spurs game was alot more expensive than usual. That ticket plan has backfired. No reason to e tickets for certain regular season games. Oh well.

Another problem is this team has the stench of Charlotte all over it. Same name, same awful colors. Team should have changed its iden y once it moved to NOLA. Hornets was perfect for Charlotte, but it doesn't work well in NOLA. The colors and unis aren't that great either. Plus, there is ownership issues which has clouded the future of this team. Alot of issues for this franchise to deal with.

The TV deal sucks as well. Not everyone in the region can watch the Hornets. Most of Louisiana can, but folks in Mississippi and Alabama can't. Those same folks never miss a Saints game. It won't change till a new TV deal is reached.

son did you not read my post? the football excuse is ing pathetic, lame, and ignorant. It doesn't matter if football is going on, the Hornets SHOULD be getting better fan support than they are regardless. People in this city and state act as if no other NBA team in the country has to deal with other professional sports going on at the same time ... its simply NOT an excuse for poor attendance.

oh and for the select few morons who are blaming Chris Paul for poor attendance ... wow, what can I even say about that? Of course everyone is frustrated with his performance in the second half this season, but Paul pretty much single handedly got this state excited about basketball again. Its not his fault that the fan base is CHEAP and FRONT RUNNERS ... the dude just donated $500,000 of his own personal money to New Orleans schools ... yea lets blame him for attendance because he spoke out against the direction the team is heading.

son the ticket e is not a issue either. most NBA teams take this route. anyone with a brain can see that it evens out in the long run. lets say for your average lower bowl ticket you pay $60 to see the Clippers, then $90 to see the Lakers ... that's just how it is. the bottom line is that there is simply NO excuse for attendance to be as pathetic as it is right now with a winning NBA team in town. the Hornets offer the cheapest ticket deals in the NBA to begin with!

Bottom line. New Orleans is too small of a market to have 2 sports teams. The market is already over-saturated as it is. It is the 53rd largest market in the country. They should have never went to New Orleans in the first place.

VoodooFest is a pretty big deal no??? And didnt Drake headline? I could see a lot of folks passing up a meaningless regular season game to catch a once a year concert.

NO fans still suck, but its not the worst excuse Ive heard
ok they get a pass for that ONE game ... but what is their excuse for the other 9 games? ... oh wait, its still football season!!!

The attendance was like this in 2007-2008 till the All-Star break. Attendance was awful than started selling out in February. Alot of the fans came from Baton Rogue, or at least it seemed that way. This town or region hasn't embraced the Hornets for whatever reason as they have for the Saints. Not sure why, but the team hasn't fully embraced the region itself. Does a poor job marketing itself to the surrounding area. Plus, the team didn't establish its own iden y like OKC did with the Thunder.

Ownership will be a big issue.

The fact is the city isn't as populated as it was before the Hurricane. Baton Rogue absorbed most of the people. Its easy for fans to travel for weekend games, but for weeknights, it will be different. It's in a nice location, but people don't care about the NBA right now to be honest except for cities that have nothing else to do. The NBA isn't that great of a product. Not as bad as baseball, but nearly as exciting as the NFL. People don't lack black athletes who make alot of money.

sons unfortunately I think its safe to say this will be their last season in New Orleans. I just received an email from my season ticket rep stating that he is suddenly leaving the Hornets as of today. This guy has been my ticket rep for many years now. Kinda odd he is suddenly leaving now ...

My guess is that the Hornets are telling the reps and other employees that they will probably be moving next season to give them a fair enough chance to either stay on and move with them or find another job. the writing is on the wall sons ... depressing

Looks like they will have their lease up at the end of the season. If Chouest doesn't take over the team by them, then someone else may step up and move them to a place like Kansas City.

If People Don't Start Attending Hornets Games They're Going To Leave New Orleans

If the Hornets don't average crowds of at least 14,213 during their next 13 home games, the franchise can opt out of its lease agreement with Louisiana, according to The Times-Picayune.

It's part of a complex agreement the franchise reached with the state when it returned from a two-season hiatus in Oklahoma City following Hurricane Katrina.

In short, contingent upon their return, the Hornets must average at least 14,735 fans over season-and-a-half periods. The current period ends on January 31.

The Hornets appeared to be safe when they averaged 15,072 fans per game last season. But despite a franchise best 13-5 start, just 14,214 fans show up to the average game. If that number decreases at all, the franchise could take steps to abandon New Orleans.

Another aspect of the bizarre agreement stipulates that if the Hornets don't average at least 14,750 fans per game, the heavily indebted state of Louisiana owes the franchise $6.8 million.

The Hornets rank 25th among 30 NBA teams in and that could be reason enough for the team to move – especially considering its on-court success.

    From The Times-Picayune:

"From a team perspective, we believe we have a compelling product that deserves to be playing in a full building, '' Hornets President Hugh Weber said Sunday after a crucial game against the San Antonio Spurs, which drew 12,449

The NBA has already abandoned New Orleans once before, and apparently, Seattle is pushing to get an NBA team back. Could Chris Paul help them forget about Kevin Durant?

Paul needs to start being a superstar to save this team. He needs to start washing fans cars or something. Get them to the arena!

Personally I think Paul should go door to door in the 9th ward, hand out courtside seats, and shuttle the rats to the game in a stylish limo.

IT'S THE LEAST HE CAN DO!!

The organization is to blame as well. They haven't done a good job in the 10 years in NOLA. They've alienated the area, spit in their faces when they called themselves Oklahoma City in the 2 years there, didn't market well in the surrounding areas, and the on-court product has been ok at best. The game 7 choke job at home had a big effect on the psyche of the team as well as losing 121-63 at home the following season. The city finally embraced the team, but were disappointed. The fans really don't have a reason to believe that this team will amount to anything until proven otherwise.
