Denver is gonna mess this up and end up with little or nothing as Anthony walks.
melo will sign with NYC come the offseason so it'd only be a short-term move wherever he goes. the nets have a whole lot of promising youths and are definitely building for the future, therefore it would be a stupid move if they lose so many picks for 6 months of his service.
NY will be a potential buyer for him imo. knicks wouldn't scruple to lose a couple picks for him, knowing that he will re-sign. melo would immediately make them a threat to celtics & cHeat. curry + turiaf + picks would sound an acceptable offer for denver imho.
mavs should also go after this guy imo, especially that dirk's out injured and won't be back very soon. butler + haywood are well enough to make up the salary, add some picks + roddy to e it up. melo would fill in the role of #1 scorer and buoy the mavs while dirk undergoes rehabilitation, and would be a reliable 2nd option after dirk returns.

I don't think people understand just how badly the Nets want Melo. I am not saying they will give 5 1st rd picks, but the Nuggets could get at least favors/2-3 picks in any deal with them.
Their owner is dying to get a star to NJ and will do whatever it takes to ensure he doesn't end up on the Knicks . If Melo agrees to an extension (which he will eventually coz he will lose the game of chicken, unless he is dumb enough to lose all that money), then the Nuggets will end up with good value for him from the Nets
If Melo doesn't sign the extension, then i'll be glad to see someone so stupid end up rotting on the Knicks team. It is laughable to think he could co-exist with Amare and still be happy. They both want to be #1.

NY have got even more young talents than NJ. amare has been playing good with NY but there will never be too many stars in NYC imo. denver would have more interest in NYC's youths than their picks imo, since NY would surely be a top5 after getting melo and their pick would be low-ranked. Curry + Wilson Chandler + fillers would be a good offer for denver imo.
i think NY will join the race and finally outbid the nets if the sense the potential threat from nets. they have all resources to get done this deal and melo's own willingness will stand on their behalf.

If I'm New York I'd probably just wait it out and try and get him in the summer. I'd give up Landry Fields and Anthony Randolph for him, but not Danilo Gallinari. Too much upside there with him and all the picks you'd have to send.

Avery Johnson Blames Social Media For Carmelo Rumors

Avery Johnson is asked often about Carmelo Anthony, who has been linked to the Nets in recent months.
Johnson hinted on Friday afternoon before New Jersey lost to Chicago that many rumors involving the trade are false.
"That's kind of what you sign up for. You're always going to have rumors about something, especially with this new social media. A long time ago there was no e-mail, Twitter, texting – so, again, all the different media publications and outlets that have emerged over the years, there's always going to be some rumors, even if they're not accurate. We all know that's why we have so many radio talk shows and all these different outlets are involved in sports.
"So whether they're accurate or not, you're always going to have rumors. Meanwhile, the main thing is a lot of our young guys that we're trying to develop that are supposedly in these trade rumors, we got to just make sure we keep developing those guys."
Johnson was referring to rookie forward Derrick Favors.
