This has EPIC fail written all over it, as does this organization

I think it's going to be a vast improvement over Bush. Wade will bring a hybrid 3-4 that will actually benefit Mario and Cushing. If Demeco can return from his injury playing at the Pro Bowl level he is capable of playing this can help turn this defense into a top 20 defense in the league. With a mediocre defense this team makes the playoffs. Rocketfan needs to jump ship already and start rooting for the Cowboys like he probably already secretly does.

You do realize Mario doesn't want to play in a 3-4 and can't? Do you even know what kind of players you need in a 3-4?

He can play well as a OLB in the Wade 3-4. He won't have to cover RBs man on man and his only pass coverage will be that of a flat zone. He will be the pass rusher lined up standing up farther outside the tackle than in a 4-3. That will help him use his speed more than simply trying to bull rush every down. When the nickel package is brought in Wade uses 4 lineman and he will be back on the edge in his "natural" position.

Wade's going to have to bring in his kind of players, and find a good NT. Pollard is gone, so there is another need. Rick Smith was over the defensive personnel before, now Wade will be over it, thankfully

Pollard sucked anyway. Amobi will be better in the one gap 3-4 that Wade runs. He won't have to be a run stuffer like the fat NTs but he can simply choose a gap and go straight after the QB. Which is exactly what he did his rookie year.

Antonio Smith came from the 3-4 in Arizona and knows how to play DE in that system. They can use Earl Mitc on the other DE position.

The safety positions were a need anyway so it's not like they didn't need an upgrade there anyway.

You have to be a blind McNair hater (which I find ridiculous because the man is solely responsible for bringing a team back to Houston) to not realize that this will be a definite upgrade to the defense. Like I said before, if their defense is top 20 in the league they make the playoffs.

I wanted Kubiak out as much as the next guy but since it isn't happening there is no reason to act like a total about it and try to look at it objectively. Wade was as a head coach, just a little worse than Kubiak, but he is a good coordinator.

I realize it will be an upgrade defensively, which is good and McNair deserves credit for bringing in a DC with experience. The problem lies that the defense wasn't the only problem, special teams was also one. Turk sucked major ass, and we don't have any returners who can get it past the 20. I am on board with Wade, just hoping they don't ignore special teams

Turk sucked major but I'm assuming they will get that together. Hopefully Trindon Holliday will get a chance next season. Kubiak wanted him to learn the WR position before keeping him on the 53 man roster but I don't see why. He never even used Dorin erson at the WR position. Next season hopefully Holliday won't get put on the IR so early and will get a chance to get something explosive going in the return game. The dude is tiny as all get out but one of the fastest guys I've seen run on a football field since Darrell Green.

In no way am I comparing him to Green in any other aspect other than speed. And even then I'm just saying he appears to be as fast, I doubt he is faster.

    It's official now

The Houston Texans have hired former Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator.

A source told ESPN.com senior NFL writer John Clayton that Phillips' deal is worth $2.1 million over three years. The contract makes Phillips, the son of former Houston Oilers coach Bum Phillips, the highest-paid defensive coordinator in the NFL.

In 4-man front in passing situations, Barwin and Williams at end and Smith and Amobi Okoye at DT. NT plays on run downs.

I predict starting LBs will be Connor Barwin as rush OLB opposite Brian Cushing. DeMeco Ryans strongside ILB. Darryl Sharpton weakside ILB.

"Wade talked about some things he did with Bruce Smith in Buffalo compared to what he'll do with Mario, and I like what I hear."
I like that quote, however, I have no expectations of that happening just because I have learned to not get my hopes up.

From one bad secondary to another? We'll see, they need just as bad a secondary makeover as the boys

    Wade for DC +1

Kubiak coming back as head coach -1

    Lateral move at best.

It's a tough deal firing a coach with the lockout looming.

If there is a lockout for a month or two, those new coaches are going to have to cram their new schemes in a shortened time frame.

Any team with a new coach is almost guaranteed to suck next year.
