Anderson would surely be glued to the bench in a suit if this happens but it seems most of ST is willing for that to happen. Also, Playing time for Neal would go down as well.

I think it's more of a Manu has to work too hard when he plays the backup 3. Perhaps the single biggest weakness on the team is our small wing players aside from Jefferson. We have 1 SF sized guy on the roster (Jefferson), all the others are 1 sized (Parker, Hill, Quinn, Neal) or 2 sized (Manu, Anderson{when healthy}). With Anderson being out, Manu is asked to carry a heck of a physical load...

"His group thought it was better that he go somewhere where he can play.” - D'Antoni on Corey Brewer
Brewer is represented by Arn Tellem, who is probably the most powerful agent representing NBA players. Brewer was going to be a free agent this summer even if he wasn't bought out. The quote from MDA would indicate that Tellem will advise Brewer to go someplace where can showcase his talents for free agency, as opposed to any short-term financial gain.

Excellent thoughts. More minutes = more exposure = potential for more money. Which of the suitors is going to be able to give this to his client AND make sure he's shown off in a positive light (ie not riding the bench, inactive in a suit)?

Brewer available playing time will depend on what Spurs decide to do with Anderson. Anderson has been nowhere near the level he had before he broke his foot. Should Spurs keep working with him this year to have him ready for the playoffs or should they consider this year as lost for him and focus on the next one?

Does Corey Brewer really put anybody over the top as a le favorite? He'd be an interesting piece to develop longer-term, but I don't think he changes anybody's fate this postseason.
I don't think anybody here believes that. He's popular because he provides some depth and versatility to the teams looking at him. I don't think anyone (including the posters here) are under any delusions about his impact this season or going forward.

Hes a solid defensive prospect and should he put in time on developing a 3 ball, he becomes a solid rotation player in the Bowen mold. Consider him a raw talent at this point that can contribute in spot minutes.

Both Dallas and SA can give him minutes.

He'd be the backup to RJ in SA, and in Dallas he could start or be backup to whoever is starting at the 3.

Oh well, it was a nice idea. "Come to the Spurs. You can be on Sportscenter when you get scored on or injured." isn't really a great pitch.

If you believe the Spurs need someone to slow down the Kobe/Carmelo/Rose type guys in the league, he becomes pretty important, no? Someone could have made the same statement about a guy like Glenn Robinson, and he did put the Spurs over the top.

Yeah I agree but to assume he is just going to come in and take on the backup sf position is pretty re ed tbh. Pop isn't going to promise him minutes like Dallas is going to. Although we are undersized for the most part on the wing position it has gotten us to a 49-10 record. Neal has earned a spot in the rotation thus far and I doubt Pop is going to nail Neal to the bench because Corey Brewer got cut. Dallas can offer more of a role for the guy then we can. Saying that, I really hope he signs with us because he could be an affective player for us against superstar wings like Kobe, Durant etc.... but I don't see him coming in getting 20-25+ minutes a game.

I disagree Glenn Robinson put us "over the top" we just happened to win it while he was on the team.

In Dallas, Carlisle is currently starting Peja at the 3-spot. So it's possible Brewer could be the starter there. However assuming he's resigned over the summer, Caron Butler would be the permanent starter for them at the 3-spot.

Brewer would eventually start for Dallas over Peja. You can book that. Until Butler returns of course.

Then you didn't watch the playoffs that year or you've just forgotten his impact. He hit big shots, and came in to stop a couple of offensive droughts. I think he even made a big defensive play at one point.

    Rewatch the 2005 playoffs again.

He came in handy vs Denver Detroit and Seattle.

Can he feasibly go to New Orleans? Wouldn't Cuban flip his if that were to happen?

If this is a rental, and he's trying to showcase for a free-agent deal, a starting role is probably going to be his best bet. Also, as you alluded to, Butler's no guarantee to ever play a game as a Mav again.

Mavs must still be in the thick of this. Otherwise, they'd have announced the signing of Pavlovic by this point.

2-24-11 NYTimes: Brewer Isn’t Answer for Knicks’ Need for Wing Depth

"Brewer may have played regular minutes for Minnesota, but he’s still a very poor offensive player who cannot be relegated to the corner because of his lack of 3-point range."

On the other hand, Abbott at TrueHoop today argues that Brewer's 3pt pct. is artificially lowered by Brewer's many end of the period at the buzzer heaves, of which he apparently leads the league.

Don't forget the Mavs also have Shawn Marion as their designated 6th man, and designated stopper to close out games. If the Mavs do somehow sign Brewer, I wonder how happy the Matrix will be if his already-limited playing time gets reduced by the presence of an even better defender in Brewer?

And some think that the Spurs will have a logjam if Brewer signs.
