CNN just now finally showed footage of the explosion. About damn time they showed it lol
ok they just extended the evac zone from 10km to 20km
Fox showed it a while back, and then just went back to pre-recorded programming. I'm puzzled at how cavalier the networks are being. They'll talk to someone saying "if they've lost containment" over video of the concrete containment building blowing up. Verizon cable has NGK but it's just talking heads so unless you speak Japanese, there's nothing there.

If that's true, it's so they don't have a panic when video comes out of that melting core hitting the ocean water and causing a vapor cloud the size of Hiroshima.
The lack of information over the last two hours is just amazing. Seems like this is a much bigger story than anyone realizes.
Remember Chernobyl. People better get the away and don't be downwind. That reactor blow up for sure per Danish media.
Not really a leap of logic that they reported an emergency yesterday, reported increased temperature and pressure, reported Cesium 137 outside the reactor, reported that they were going to open pressure valves to release pressure (while doubling the evacuation radius) and then watching the roof and walls blow off the containment building. That news agencies are reporting that there "might" be a reactor breach seems terribly optimistic.
BTW, they reported a similar emergency in building 2, so it seems like it's just a matter of time before that building blows as well. The Chernobyl exclusion zone is 30 km, so I guess we'll know for sure that it's fully exposed when they increase it to that size.

They can't get to Sendai because the nuke plant is on the road from Tokyo, so those people aren't getting any aid. The Fox news reporter in Japan says that cars are being turned away 70 kilometers from the reactor.

(Reuters) - The company at the centre of a nuclear reactor crisis following the biggest earthquake in Japan's recorded history has had a rocky past in an industry plagued by scandal.
The Japanese government said on Saturday that there had been radiation leakage at Tokyo Electric Power's (TEPCO) Fukushima Daiichi plant following an explosion there.
The blast came as TEPCO was working desperately to reduce pressures in the core of a reactor at the 40-year-old plant, which lies 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo.
In 2002, the president of the country's largest power utility was forced to resign along with four other senior executives, taking responsibility for suspected falsification of nuclear plant safety records.
The company was suspected of 29 cases involving falsified repair records at nuclear reactors. It had to stop operations at five reactors, including the two damaged in the latest tremor, for safety inspections.
A few years later it ran into trouble again over accusations of falsifying data.
In late 2006, the government ordered TEPCO to check past data after it reported that it had found falsification of coolant water temperatures at its Fukushima Daiichi plant in 1985 and 1988, and that the tweaked data was used in mandatory inspections at the plant, which were completed in October 2005.
And in 2007, TEPCO reported that it had found more past data falsifications, though this time it did not have to close any of its plants
