O'Neal seems rather displeased with the state of the Pacers. Off the court he isn't too enthused about living in Indianapolis and dealing with those mild Indiana winters.
Spurs gotta give him the superstar treatment though when they recruit him.
Thanks Ice and kohai.
I forgot about that chapter in Spurs history.

There needs to be an article in the paper the day Jermaine arrives led:
"Local meteorologists wonder if it will ever snow in San Antonio again."
I heard his family hates winters![]()

In case it's not clear, Bill Duffy isn't O'Neal's agent.
This means nothing.
Just another agent speaking his mind. I wouldn't put TOO much stock in his statement.
But I've maintained all along that O'neal is staying. He can get the most money, per CBA, by staying with his original team. And the Pacers have a solid nucleus and a good future ahead for them. And he's the focal point of the team, both defensively, and offensively. Don't count on him coming to SA.
Once you factor in state income taxes that difference isn't too great. The Spurs can also give him a player option prior to expiration so that extra guaranteed year wouldn't mean much.
adidas,
When you factor in state income tax, I believe the difference is about 5 million dollars over the length of the contract.
Couple that with:
1. Endorsement contracts coupling him with Tim
2. More importantly, the bonuses that players are rewarded by the league for advancing each round in the playoffs (he'd be getting WCF/Finals bonuses as opposed to one and done in the east)
And it'd probably be a wash, he might even come out ahead here in SA.

O'Neal is coming to town. Who wouldn't leave Indy for a chance to win multiple championships and make enough money to last 50 lifetimes in the process? Ludicrous debate IMO...... Pop and Tim will be on his doorstep at 12:01 am July 1st with donuts, coffee and the Larry O'Brien Trophies in each hand. Done deal.....
I'd like to think that the allure of playing for the Spurs would be too much for O'Neal to turn down, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

He better, or I am out $100.![]()
I'm glad to see that you're guided by altruistic motives, as always, Jim.. :wink
It's even better than that:When you factor in state income tax, I believe the difference is about 5 million dollars over the length of the contract.

And that's before considering the absence of state income tax in SA. All things considered, Kidd could make more money coming to SA I believe."But the Nets can only offer up to a six-year deal worth the maximum salary because Kidd will turn 36 before the seventh year of the contract. According to the Over 36 Rule in the collective bargaining agreement, a player's current team is prohibited from signing the player to a maximum salary for seven years. The starting maximum salary is computed by taking 30 percent of the salary cap for a player who has completed seven to nine years of service. Most league executives believe the salary cap will be set July 16 somewhere between $40 million to $43 million. If the cap were at $41 million, for example, that would set Kidd's starting salary at $12.3 million. For a total of six years, the Nets could offer $96.8625 million. The Spurs could offer $92.25 million."
Another article about it here:

I've never heard of this Over36 rule before! This is definitely news to me!
Kidd won't be able to get that 7th year from the Nets but O'Neal will be offered that by the Pacers. I'm sure that it will be more than the Spurs can offer with a 6 year deal when taxes are factored in but the thing to remember is that the Spurs can offer to include a player option for JO'Neal after the 4th year (I believe). That way JO'Neal could opt out and re-sign and get paid just about the same. Of course, it still wouldn't be the same amount of guaranteed money up front but it's not like the Spurs are trumped by that 7th year.
TwoHand,
I'm talking about Jermaine. I could GAF about Kidd, I want O'Neal.

Marcus. comon...what is the difference betw 70 million and 80 million, really? Does it really matter?
Here is my strategy for getting O'Neal, and Kori, you can pass this on to the Spurs organization if you like:
Have Pop, Tim, DRob and Kevin Willis all meet with O'Neal. Tim and Dave can tell him how great the Spurs organization is and show him their three MVP trophys, their two rings(soom to be four).
Pop can tell him all about his coaching philosophies, which Jermain knows some about from last Summer and what he expects from him if he becomes a Spur.
And the Ace in the hole here which is played last, have Kevin tell him about how he waited 17 yrs for a ring, and how he doubted he would ever get to the promised land, because you have to be on the right team at the right time. You have to try from early in your career to position yourself for a championship, because if you just play for the money and do not make the sacrifices early in your career, you might look back and regret that you never gave yourself that opportunity to win it. As the years and opportunities keep passing you by, you lament on past chances that slipped past you. Kevin should say that he got lucky getting on the Spurs this year, but a lot of great players (he can rattle off the names) were not so fortunite, and Jermaine should jump on this opportunity now and then he can have no regrets later in life, because he gave himself the best chance to win the ring when he had the golden opportunity. And Tim , Dave and Pop can nod knowingly at Jermaine while he ponders over this advice. Man, this would work like a charm.
OK Jim you convinced me...
have your guy get with my guy and they can do lunch and work out the details...![]()
CC, your guy can not help.![]()
Have you taken a look at my signature and Avatar lately? I don't want Kidd either, I was just keeping people informed.I'm talking about Jermaine. I could GAF about Kidd, I want O'Neal.
However, if we can't get ONeal or Brand, I'd have to say we should get Kidd and see where we go from there.
well...since you don't see any real difference between 70 and 80 million my guy certainly couldn't hurt...CC, your guy can not help.![]()
CC, to prove my point, if you had a choice to win 80 million in lotto and live in a place where you were not as happy at work, or win 70 million and live where you are happier at work and have more perks, would the 10 mil matter that much?
Jim,
Whether I won 70 million or 80 million, the with work - I'm retiring. :eyebrow
