You mean on the 4th and goal from the 13? IIRC, there was only 7 minutes or so left. Field goal still leaves you down by 10 and needing 2 scores, so no - you don't go for the field goal.
1 1/2 scores. You need a td anyways. a field goal can be done with 30 seconds.

nevertheless, good showing for Texas State. A&M Baylor game should be a doozie

Texas withstanding, the Big 12 may be the weakest major conference in college football this year. The only other half decent team in the conference is Tech.

It's funny that the 2 best teams in the nation (USC, Texas) come from the 2 weakest conferences (Pac-10, Big 12).

The likelyhood of getting 2 more possessions is slim in that instance, and when you are a team like Texas State, you can't be playing for a tie at College Station. Definitely don't kick the FG there.

It'll be interesting to read the excuses when "Aggy" drops Texas at Kyle in a couple of months.

You're right. Texas fan will already have written off the season after yet another loss to OU.

Well, Texas State's defense looked like a D1-AA school going against a big D1 school. They allowed 300 yards passing, 200 yards to a receiver, and 100 yards to an RB, first time A&M had ever achieved that in a single game. They almost allowed McNeal to become the first player in NCAA history to have back-to-back 300 yard throwing 100 yard rushing games (according to the announcers). Texas State only forced 2 punts all game (actually 3, but were called for roughing the kicker on 1 of them). So, asking them to stop A&M once when the Aggies were faced with possible defeat was probably too much, let alone twice.

It was a very good showing by Texas State though. They should handle their conference and perhaps put up a good showing in the D1-AA playoffs. They were ranked #14 in the nation going in, I wouldn't be surprised to see their ranking go up despite the loss.

Perhaps Texas faced an overrated OSU team? It'll be interesting to see how OSU performs in their conference games.

only reason I'm talking aggie is because I wanted Texas State to do well. If it makes you feel better Aggie is the greatest and Texas Sucks.

Ohio State should never be confused with an offensive juggernaught, so the 22 points the Buckeyes put up should be a concern. Other than that, OSU is as good as advertised. Texas should be proud of putting up 25 on that defense, and sacking up they way they did to win the game. Somewhere in the top 10, Ohio State deserves a place.

The team that I feel really gets overlooked, is Louisville. I feel they are truely the #3 team in the country right now.

Still think Texas may have some trouble in Lubbock. The Ghost of Kliff Kingsbury still lingers in Mack's memory banks.

OSU has a mid-October date with the Spartans that should be interesting. If they drop that game, all of a sudden a Texas win there plus a couple of blowouts of Rice and UL-Breaux Bridge doesn't look as great.

Just saying, personally I don't care one way or another how Texas fares this season. For the sanity of some people I know, I do hope they manage to beat OU, especially this season.

Tech can flat out play. Leech has got that program rolling. Louisville's schedule is way too light and they should be penalized for it. They should never crack the top 5 IMO

The OSU team at the end of last year was a top 5 team. They pretty much returned everyone so logic tells you they are still darn good. Spartans on the other hand are good too, but OSU should handle them. Texas losing to OU would be like the spurs losing to the lakers last year.

Well, the OSU win is what Texas has to justify their ranking. As for OU, yeah, Texas should win, but Stoops seems to be in Mack's head such that even in a rebuilding year OU still has a shot.

I'd like someone to tell me the last time UT ran a fake field goal play in the first quarter against a 40+ point I-AA underdog, please.

    Thanks in advance.

    Why not?

The better angle would be having a QB from that team putting up some yardage and points on the secondary.

Maybe I don't get your point here. The State QB was a lot better than I expected, but not as good as Whitehurst or even SMU's Romo.

If memory serves, and I wasn't paying full attention to the TV, it was about a 23 yard FG, maybe a little shorter than the one they kicked on the previous possession. The Aggies jumped on a fumble in Bobcat territory to get possession with the game about 5-6 minutes old leading 3-0.

It was actually a good call if the Aggies were just looking to blow the game open, or were just testing a fake in a game situation. Or if Fran saw a dangerous yet substandard opponent in State and didn't want to get humiliated like Stanford last week against UC-Davis.

I dunno, man. I'm not going to say it was classless after seeing the final score. But the timing considering the opponent was a little awkward.
