He is in the ball park for sure just a handful of spots beneath Duncan with Kobe's pisspoor PER, over-rated pseudo clutch stats (see ESPN articles about that) and his carpet bagging onto Shaq, Gasol/Odom/Bynum for les.

Kobe with the teams Duncan had may never have won a single le, but surely he would never have gotten 4 - he is just not as dominant all around as Duncan was.

Yeh because there is no salient arguement Kobe is superior except for spurious 5 les arguement = the undisputed fact he was the 2nd option on three les and could not deliver any more until Gasol came aboard but somehow those "5" les outweigh Duncan's more substantial contribution to 4 - 3 at least as the undisputed main man. That is very true, Kobe might not have won as much, but definitely he wouldn't have the impact Duncan has on the spurs.

But this is the world we live in where people like Dwight Howard win 3 straight defensive player of the year awards for his lazy defense.

People like Kobe is the best thing we will ever see to a player like MJ.

One interesting way to see it is this...

for the Spurs, the Leader of the team, Duncan, is silent and efficient, he just does his job and keeps silent about it. Not really screaming, punching team mates leading them to victory, that was Pop's Job.

For the Lakers, the leader of the team, Kobe, is flashy, loud and expects the best from his team mates to the point of screaming at them and punching at them. While PJ, is silent and let's these things happen.

So in conclusion we see that the Bench leader role can only garner 4 rings, while a floor leader can garner 5.
