Beck compares Norwegian youth camp to Hitler Youth

Just when we all thought that we couldn't get any more embarrassed, this story shows up:

You know, I had happily forgotten about Beck (like most other rational Americans, I assume) when I came across the article above while looking for something on the European debt markets.

The ignorance here is genuinely astounding. Apparently Beck doesn't even know about things like "The Model UN" here in America, or that talented youth all over the U.S. are invited to participate in week or month-long events in Washington, D.C. to prepare them for roles in politics and civil responsibility. That is more like what the kids in Norway were attending.

And the kids in Norway were, by and large, the children of the ruling political party in Norway, which the gunman held responsible for being too lenient in their immigration and racial policies!

This is just embarrassing.

I relate to being a thoughtful American. As such, I am embarrassed when people who garner lots of attention in America and have lots of support for his positions makes such a complete ass of himself. It embarrasses me for the rest of us Americans who may be mistaken for people who think he has anything worthwhile to say.

So Beck has got things exactly wrong with his reference to “Hitler Youth.”

In all fairness to Beck, the camp is of the Socialist mindset. One that the liberals in the USA would probably like to send their kids to. It isn't just any camp, and I'm sure he doesn't oppose conservative minded camps.

Just because something "might" be right doesn't mean we should give it the benefit of the doubt.
