I think it all comes down to San Antonio's ability to sell Lux Boxes. I don't think we'll have problems finding the money to renovate the Dome to NFL standards, but we will have to find corporate sponsors to fill those Boxes. We have a couple of big players HQed here in SA (Valero, USAA, SBC, Clear Channel, Tesoro) and some others with a big presence (World Savings, Citi, soon to be WAMU and Toyota) - but it will take some of the smaller players (like a ScooterStore, which has/had a box at the SBC) to step up and buy their fare share of boxes.

Dallas is combimed with Ft. Worth to creat a very large CMSA.
Right, which is why the "8th largest city" argument is misleading.
Take away Fort Worth and its metro area and metro Dallas is barely bigger than Metro San Antonio.
I'm not positive that's exactly accurate, but it reinforces my above point, so I'm with ya so far.
If San Antonio were given a CMSA, it'd be about 4.5 million and in the teens for tv market.
Okay, let's hold up here for a second. According to my math if you added San Antonio and Houston it would be roughly the size of DFW. I'm talking about the television market, not the population.

Here's another detail that is in San Antonio's favor: Tagliabue was quoted as saying ``We're going to be moving up in market size, not either down or flat. That's our goal.'' San Antonio's market is larger than New Orleans, but maybe not enough to matter.

Bank of America soon with their regional center.

How does the 8th largest city, rank 37th in T.V. market size? Who decides this sort of thing? The NFL likes it when the Dallas Cowboys pulls in a 22-25 T.V. rating here. So I guess they should revise that 37th market size and show a true reflection of all the T.V. that are turned on inside the city. That T.V. market size rating is BS.

IF SA had been thinking, then SA could have run a big, hyped sale of tickets and had droves of SA fan base go to the games in the Bayou...IN BIG NUMBERS annoncing they would be there to support "THEIR" team (whether temporary or not). Would have been a great idea...maybe it could still be a great idea and get some pub that even TAGS could not ignore. There is certainly nothing to lose and an NFL team to gain, thoughts?

Actually it's not BS. Look at a map of the metroplex sometime. There are probably 15 other cities of decent size besides D/FW. That's your "television market", not just the city of Dallas. San Antonio's kind of an island.

More importantly the TV market, IMHO, is corporate base (which would in turn beget a larger TV market).

San Antonio has a growing corporate base (including the 15th largest in the US and 3rd largest in Texas if you combine Valero with their recent acquisition of Premcor), but it still doesn't compare with the two existing NFL markets in Texas.

San Antonio boasts five Fortune 500 companies HQed here, whereas Dallas claims 18 (including the 2nd largest in the country) and Houston has 21 (including the 7th largest in the US). For those interested: http://www.bidc.state.tx.us/Fortune500Texas.pdf

We certainly aren't the most attractive market, but with a committment from our corporate leaders, we can get this thing done. Valero has been working with City Government, the Chamber of Commerce, and other businesses in the metro area to provide leadership to make this thing happen.

    oooo????

Have you seen the devestation in the state of Louisiana????

You think those people are worried about football games right now? Do you not know how many people have lost everything they have? I would think that the money they do have is being spent of more important things....like food, shelter and water..... ya think?

These people do not need to have their team pulled out from under them now. They might not be able to afford to go see them now, but they can at least listen to the games and know that they have some semblance of normality lift for them...in their football team.
Don’t have enough money???? What about the 2g’s we gave to
Them on debt cards… and don’t say they spent it on food or rent
Or supplies… I work with them on a daily basis… they bought
1000 dollar LV bags, and big screen TVs. At first I felt bad but, work at a shelter
And you will soon learn the truth. BRING ME YOUR WEAK
AND POOR…. YEA FIDEL ...LET EM IN……. we all know
How that turned out…I say give us the team

Yeah, an island that just so happens to be in the heart of Texas. Come up with something better that I can believe. San Antonio/Austin area ranks up there. Higher than most NFL cities. I believe if San Antonio ends up with an expansion team sometime in the future, we could rule all of south texas, and possibly fans as far away as El Paso and inside Mexico.

All of South Texas, yes... El Paso seems like a bit of a strech... that is like an 8 hour drive man.

I know it's an eight hour drive, but there will be fans who will cheer on a San Antonio team from El Paso. There's Dallas fans here in San Antonio who make that eight hour round trip by car to watch a game. I'm a rabid Bills fan and I'm 30 hours from home by car one-way and a good six hours by plane. I try to go to a few games at home when my schedule allows. I don't know how long or how much the flight is from San Antonio to El Paso, but it's do-able for a fan from El Paso.

Your right about san Antonio/Austin will being a huge metroplex one day. I can see it happening within the next four or five years. When I make the trip up I35 to Austin it's becoming harder to tell where San Antonio (Bexar County) ends and Austin area begins and Vise-versa because of all the expansion that's going on along that route. It's going to be nice to see that happen.
