Okay, so maybe the le is a bit over-stretched, but my point still stands. Smartphones these days are getting better, and better, and better, and Apple somehow manages to lag behind, every time. Yet, as slow as they are, they still manage to make old hardware 'new' again. In this day and age, plenty of smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S2, the Motorola Atrix, and the HTC EVO 3D are just some of the already dual-core offerings.
But you know what? It's likely Apple will market their new dual-core iPhone 5 as revolutionary. Why? Because that's how they make business. They play catch-up, but they get their marketing right. But what about other features of the proclaimed deity of smartphones?
Apple is likely to introduce an 8 mega-pixel camera with its new iPhone 5. For most of the people using iPhone 4's, that's pretty new. For people using Android phones, 8MP is almost expired, and we'll probably start seeing 10-12MP smartphone cameras some time soon.
Android 1 - Apple 0.
They're also likely to introduce 4G connectivity. Problem is, are people even adopting that yet? Heck, it's barely even been rolled out. Besides, some Android phones already have it. Sorry Apple, you're late again.
Android 2 - Apple 0.
Apple will also introduce wireless syncing. They described it as 'cutting the cord', and that it would be a revolutionary change to how smartphones work. Funnily enough, that's also already been done before.
Android 3 - Apple 0.
They'll bring more RAM to the iPhone 5, up to 1GB. Most smartphones these days feature 1GB of RAM. In fact, you'd be silly to think that anything less than that is standard these days. I bet Apple will market as revolutionary.
Android 4 - Apple 0.
Apple has no choice but to have a larger screen with their new iPhone 5. What size will it be, though? 4"? Sorry, Apple, you're already beat on that front. In fact, most new phones have AMOLED screens... so uh, better pick up the pace on that one.
Android 5 - Apple 0.
And yet the amazing thing is that millions of people will believe that all of Apple's new features will be new and revolutionary. They'll think that their dogmatic God company has brought out the latest and greatest in new smartphone technology, but they're really just trying to keep up with their compe ors.
Worse yet, is that Apple will then go after their compe ors claiming that they came up with their ideas first.
I have an iPhone. Why? Because I didn't see what all the fuss about smartphones was until I saw one.
Funny thing is, I bought an Apple iPhone because they were the coolest thing. I got one because I thought it would make me one of the 'in' crowd, I thought that it was the most versatile and flexible smartphone on the planet.
Oh, how wrong I was.
