Maybe the world phone capabilities - but thats it.
Yeah thats the thing - they're not competing only against other Apple phones. I'm sure people in Sprint will buy some but I would not be shocked to see it be underwhelming. Anyone who really wanted an iphone has had a very long time to jump ship to ATT/Verizon now. And when you compare the 4S to the Photon and Epic Touch I don't see why on earth you'd go for Apple.
Maybe the world phone capabilities - but thats it.
Sprint seems to have gone pretty much all in on this, I think will they get a lot of new contracts signed. They have stopped bleeding customers but pushing Android hasn't got them a whole lot of new subscribers, esp if they offer unlimited data for the iPhone plans.
I'm on the fence on whether to upgrade my 3GS for the 4S. I use the 3GS as a backup to my 4 when it drops... not sure if I want a 4S backed up by a 4.
This is a miss because Apple fans are rabid enough to have sites like MacRumors and the like where they sit around a jerk off all day to dreamt up ideas of the next iPhone. The bar is a lot higher for Apple, so when they make a product still better than 98% of the rest of the market, but not the greatest game changer to-date, its viewed as an uber fail. Of course, it will still dominate sales.
For folks like me - users with multiple Apple devices but no real loyalty to the company - I'll stick with iOS because all of my experiences to date with other smartphones have, plain and simple, sucked a major . It's probably because I'm just some South Texas simpleton, but all the impressive hardware the Droids roll out with hasn't meant , because it's still been paired with a ty user interface that isn't as intuitive and simple as the iPhone's. Before I carried two iPhones, my backup was an LG-something or other and it literally drove me to get another iPhone. I just couldn't stand it. I thought about going Droid for my back-up (and still might, I'll have to play with the new ones. Is the Nexus Prime on AT&T?), but to date nothing has done it for me.
I'm not sure the contract argument works when AT&T is always offering early discounted upgrades.
I can't speak for anyone else but the upgrade would cost me right around 340.00. If I can sell my iPhone 4 for 300-340, I'd probably do so.
As for being underwhelmed, I'm not sure why anyone is surprised based on Apple's release history.
All this spec bs gets old to me. My iPhone 4 does everything I throw at it, and I'm sure it will do SIRI too with some hacks. At this point we're sort of getting where PC's have gotten, which is to say nobody really needs a new one because there isn't much of anything software wise pushing the need for new hardware.
Uh?

Basically, Apple told them you have to buy 3.5 million units, whether you sell them or not, I don't care. That's the kind of leverage Apple has with their phones.
tbqh, then whole "Apple getting heat from Android" is non-existent, IMO. Sure, people go out there and buy whatever they want (and I personally was underwhelmed with the 4S as much as I was with the 3GS), but the reality here is that Apple is raping everyone in margins and their devices are still incredibly sought after.
If that's the case, that's a phenomenally stupid business strategy. See: Nintendo, GM, Sony, and just about every company that ever got to the top and then felt they were so invincible they could just ignore compe ion.
I'm pretty sure what happened to Apple previously is always in the back of their minds. Just saying.
I thought it was 30.5, not 3.5?

When I sell my iPhone 4 for 339.01 it will be.
DAMN Sprint has to move 3.5 million units? Doesn't that seem really high?
Wait the article says 30.5 million units. WHAT THE ?
That has to be a typo right?
Sprint, the No. 3 U.S. wireless carrier, is making a multibillion-dollar gamble that access to the iPhone will be the ticket to a turnaround. Sprint has committed to buy at least 30.5 million iPhones, even though it would likely lose money on the deal until 2014, according to people familiar with the matter.

its not a typo. What the . I guess I can kiss my unlimited data from Sprint goodbye because its only a matter of time before they go under if they're betting the farm on selling 30.5 million iphone 4s.
My understanding is that it's 30 million units over 4 years. People can talk all the smack they want but show me another phone that's sold 30 million units before it was even available for preorder.
(Hopefully for Sprint it's 7.5 million of each generation, but still 7.5 million 4S ain't too shabby)

Sprint has 33 million subscribers total. They basically have to hope half of them buy an iphone and upgraded it exactly on the 2 year mark. Good luck with that.
I think they've got to be hoping they get more subscribers as well, lol.
Well before that happens they need to focus on keeping the ones they already have.
might have been easier to get new subscribers if this phone wasn't so underwhelming. They'll probably have vto wait for the true iphone 5 to get a proper migration. And they have to find a way to keep the data unlimited in the meantime
Rip steve jobs
No kidding, wow RIP
Staying at the top is an everyday job, and applies to every company just the same. It's not about feeling invincible, it's about being on top of things all the time.
I told you. That's leverage.
