    My thoughts exactly (both posts).

I don't want to pay so I can look like the facebook gots when I don't even use facebook. I want a decent phone that I can still use the internet without the stupid ass BB keypad.

I've read about the 1777, is that the Galaxy S2?
    FYI HTC makes Facebook phones.

Got the S2 and loving the phone. Battery life sucks though. I know I have live wallpaper and stuff but it's still pretty bad.

    I have the Galaxy Nexus...

    Android 4.0
    4.65 inch screen
    No buttons on the face

Here it is comparedf to my wifes iPhone. (guess the movie!)

Notice how much screen there is since there are no physical buttons. Also notice there isnt any "widecreen" black bars since the size is made for HD.

Galaxy Nexus is the best Android phone right now.

Galaxy S2 is the best phone not on Verizon.

Here's some camera samples from the Nexus. Keep in mind the quality were dumb down via facebook upload.

That's Daddy Day Care. I almost convinced my daughter to rent this with me last night but we got Mr. Bean's Vacation instead.

Instead of just recommending phones, how about asking some more questions. From what I gathered, the OP wasn't going to do anything special with the phone, so a "lesser" phone may be a better option, especially on the wallet.

If you just want a phone that can surf the net, and do all the smartphone things without all the bells and whistles of the most expensive phones, all the carriers are offering phones that are free or extremely cheap. Just know that with Android, not all phones get the latest updates or support, so some of these phones can be more than 2 updates behind with no hope of catching up.

He's asking which model you chose. Most of us techies usually go for or recommend the best.

You'll get more bang for your buck getting a 150 dollar S2, 99 dollar iphone, or 79 dollar photon for Sprint than any of their free phones. The free phones are almost out of date as it is and will certainly be so in a year. The newer dual core phones will last MUCH longer. An S2 will probably be just fine spec wise for 3-4 years.

All of the newer phones will get ICS. Not that it matters for me. I never stick with the stock OS. I'll have ICS on my Photon within a few hours of UPS dropping it off.

im curious to see how ICS will adapt to the older phones. Thats cuz i heard that Nexus was "made with ICS in mind". Im not sure what that means with the razr, s2, etc.

Got the Samsung InFuse 4G which I like fine except for the occasional times it freezes up. Huge screen, but also thin so fits well in the pocket. Decent enough camera.

I'm using an alpha build of ICS right now, it's pretty comparable to the ICS I've tried on the Nexus (albeit less polished). I'm sure CyanogenMod will ensure ICS is optimized for any particualr phone one the final builds are released.

Yeah accessing the task manager is done by long-pess of home button as opposed to the virtual button on the Nexus.

You all are recommending the best, but that comes at a premium price point. Sometimes, someone can't afford to get the best. Specs plus price can equal the best OPTION.

Again, if the person isn't going to use all the bells and whistles, then that should be an option. If the guy just wants a phone with more horsepower than he will ever use, then go ahead and throw away some money.

I just saw a guy yesterday that was still using a Treo. When I asked him about it, he said it worked, sent texts and pulled up email as well as went online, and that's all he needed it for.

So it doesn't matter what OS you have or how fast your processor is, if you want to do basic stuff with it, then there's no point in dishing out $199 when he can get something cheaper. , the Nexus S is going for $99 and isn't that far removed from the Galaxy S II.

And even the Nexus S may be more phone than is needed.

Oh you mean if he can't afford the phone he can't get it? Brilliant observation there. Thanks.

He asked for the equivalent of an iphone with a Samsung phone. There's a reason the phones that are being discussed right now are being discussed.

You'd be an idiot to buy a Nexus S on contract right now.
