Bruins’ Tim Thomas declines to visit White House

U.S. President Barack Obama hosted the Boston Bruins at the White House on Monday afternoon to celebrate their 2011 Stanley Cup victory, but veteran goaltender Tim Thomas declined to attend for political reasons, according to Sports Illustrated.
While attendance wasn’t mandatory, the rest of the team took part in the ceremony. Thomas is one of the few Americans on the roster.
“I can require someone to attend a team event. If they don’t, I can suspend him,” Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli told the Boston Globe. “I’m not suspending Tim. Whatever his position is, it isn’t reflective of the Boston Bruins nor my own. But I’m not suspending him.”
The Bruins won their first Stanley Cup le in 39 years last June after a seven-game final series against the Vancouver Canucks.
It was the latest in a string of Boston professional sports championships in recent years, including the Celtics in 2008, the Red Sox in 2007 and the New England Patriots in 2005. The Patriots play in next month’s Super Bowl.
Thomas plans to explain his decision to fans at 6 p.m. ET on his Facebook page.

If you nonsensically refuse a neutral photo op and non-political accolades from a public official you're pretty much an irredeemable head. I confirmed this by reading Tim Thomas's Wikipedia page and discovering that he is a fan of Glenn Beck.

What an asshole. You never saw this from all the players that visited George Bush and didn't support him politically. This type of recognition goes beyond the scope of politics and should always trump political bull .

If he objects, then i think its perfectly justified that he refuses to attend. And its hard to agree that this type of recognition goes beyond politics, its a p.r event after all. On the other side he s a fan of Beck, so he is indeed an asshole.
