You, my friend, have a very easy problem to diagnose. You are afraid of failure and rejection.
You wont try something if you might fail, therefore you never try. Hard to have regrets if you never tried, right?
You are afraid of being rejected by that which you deeply care about and are so insecure in yourself that, in your mind, its better to say nothing at all instead for fear of " ing it up".
There is no easy answer and obviously at your age, youre way past the point in your life where resolution could have made a significant difference. But its never too late, my man.
Just because youre 50-ish doesnt mean you have to stand still and wait to die with all your current flaws. If youre married, then the dating thing is done. But professionally, you should go back to school and get what you wanted out of it, no matter how old you are.
Money can be made when you free yourself from thinking youre going to acquire it from someone or something else. Working for someone else, pleasing someone else, kissing the right ass, etc. When you truly feel, honestly and truly feel that you have something to give to this world that should reward you, you will be. Most likely will not be millions, but it will be far more than you are receiving now completely unhappy about it.
Think. Spend time thinking, by yourself, with no distractions. Some call it meditation, I call it thinking. I sit at least 1 full hour a day thinking with no noise, no visuals, no stimuli. I think about me, about my family, about ideas, concepts, books, television, sports, inventions, writing, poetry, authors, history, events, news, science, friends, enemies, the world, culture, language. I mean everything.
Ive always been this way even as a kid. Sounds to me like you need to do a lot of thinking about yourself and nothing else. I did that when I was a teenager...I was always my oldest brothers clone, a metal head (still am just not in appearance) and suddenly I find myself wearing baggy green pants around my thighs listening to stupid gangster rap music trying to emulate something I am not. It was a brief phase, but a significant one because I learned something about myself. Something important...exactly what I did not want to be.
Think about yourself by yourself. The answers are always there its just that most people dont realize that they are the leading experts on themselves.
