Odom is getting better, but I say this more so because of how well Brandon Wright has been playing.

On one hand, Wright plays his ass off every posession, and brings a great level of athleticism. Does all the dirty work, without taking shots away from the better scorers of the team. Also has some nice post moves and finishes really well, whether its dunking, scoop shots or layups. However, he is still young and inexperienced, although he doesn't make a ton of youth-related mistakes, which could easily change come playoff time.

On the other hand, Odom is battle-tested, and a unique talent that can hang 30+ any given night, and is a triple double threat constantly. However, he is known to get incredibly lazy, sometimes at very inopportune times... and its slowing becoming a bigger and bigger thought that he just may not fit well in the Mavs system (which makes no sense considering his skillset)...

I think this would be a tough call... even more so because there really isn't a glaring need on the Mavericks, that they could trade Odom for (unless they can get a really good center, which I doubt). They pretty much have all bases covered, just need time to gel.

How would you handle this if you were in the position of Mavs GM?

    Why not keep both?

They seem to complement each other very well

But it he was involved in a trade; maybe Odom+Kidd for a good C

    if its possible $wise

I don't think you could pull good enough trade value for Odom. Give him time, let him get loved by the team, and I think he'll respond positively for you guys. It's still only been a few months, and Odom is an emotional player. Assuming he gets along with the team, then I think he'll be motivated, especially if they should face the Lakers in the postseason.

Uuh, hard to say. I'd say no.

But if he still sucks, Dallas has a team option next season, right?

Doesn't make sense to trade Odom. His trade value is low so the Mavs wouldn't be getting anything of value in return. And with the way this compressed season is going, having depth is a good thing because someone is going to get injured at some point.

The one thing I think that bodes well for the Mavs in the long run is that over the off season, they brought in a lot of players. Some past their prime, others just okay players to begin with, but guys that could and probably would earn minutes. With that, they do have a lot of depth. Other teams are losing players left and right. The Mavs can afford a couple injuries, even to key players. They might not have the best record in the west at the end of the season, but I think they might be in better shape than a lot of the other playoff teams.

This right here is why I wouldn't trade him.

However, it just seems like the team does better when Wright is in the game, as opposed to Odom... however that could change come playoff time.

Keep Odom and let his contract expire at the end of the season. I think we have a very good shot at landing Deron Williams in the summer. You would only trade Odom if what you're bringing back doesn't add to next year's cap figure and can help you more this year.

Jam and others make great points but LOL at 30+ points on any given night ....

When Odom plays a great game it's more like 22 points 12 boards and 6 assists which are great numbers but Lamar rarely hits 30 plus points.

and no it's not because Kobe shoots all the shots he rarely topped 30 plus with Clips or Heat either, Lamar is too unselfish ...

Man, Odom is just what the Spurs need. In the Mavs he's beign underutilized.

Someone who basically isn't quick enough anymore to go 1 on 1 and sucks off the ball? Did I mention he has low basketball IQ?

Someone that will decrase the minutes played by Bonner and Blair.

You gotta hold on to him. If the Nets can't swing a deal for Howard then Williams likely signs with the Mavs. Once they let Chandler walk they made their choice of Williams/Howard or bust, and they can't go back now.

Put Dwight on the team and Bonner will see an increase in minutes

I still think it was an amazing move. It's just that Brandon Wright has been shockingly good, and shows a lot of promise. An argument definitely exists that it would be a better move for the future to give him more minutes, and trade Odom for youth/picks (although Odom's current trade stock likely is not high)

Yes, an embellishment perhaps, but point was, that he can get hot at any time and put up some monster numbers in a limited number of minutes.

The Spurs could make good use of him. With Manu, Leonard, Neal and Green, the Spurs could send RJ to the Mavs. However, I don't think the Spurs and the Mavs would make a trade.

Hopefully, he will get cut so the Spurs could pick him on the cheap.

No use whatsoever for RJ on the Mavs.

The only way the Mavs trade him is if somehow they can land a young up-and coming star (0% chance), a quality center that is unquestionably superior to Brendan Haywood who's contract expires at the end of the year (0% chance), or cash/draft picks (15% chance perhaps?)

LO is more inconsistent then anyone on this team and he ain't such a player that you can count on come big times, if there's a good deal available then it wouldn't be a bad option to trade away his lazy ass. n!gga just a reliable backup for dirk and that's all
