Good news for Texas, but doesn't really change the reality that they need to win out in their scheduled games plus the Big XII le game to be in the national le game. At least it looks like they won't face the prospect of being leapfrogged by another team in the BCS.

I think that is obvious, because any loss and they are out of the le game.

Curious that beating Texas Tech -- a team proclaimed by so many around here to either suck or not be very good -- has paid off handsomely for the Horns, who are now perceived to have smacked around a highly-rated team (mitigating the effect of Ohio State's fall in the polls).

USC certainly did nothing this weekend to lose votes. So UT's rise must signal a change in perception about the Horns.

Even if Texas fans think Tech sucks or is overrated, it's lucky for them that the voters thought the win over Tech actually carried some weight.

I think holding that high powered Tech offense to only 17 points was a pretty big factor. Also, USC hasn't proven jack! They are slipping by some pretty bad teams. Their only true test was against Notre Dame, and they should have lost. Texas has been consistant the whole season (so far). Plus, they beat 2 top 10 teams. I think USC will lose to either UCLA or Cal before its all over.

I would be willing to bet that if USC and Texas played on a neutral field USC would be favored. That is all.

    I don't doubt that.

Doesn't guarantee they would win though.

Texas struggled against Ohio State and only won by a touchdown...the same as USC.

It's going to get really, really sticky if Georgia and Alabama somehow reach the SEC le game undefeated (I don't think they play each other). If that happens, one of them will have to emerge from the SEC undefeated and if that team gets shut out of the national championship game, it will be 2 years in a row that an undefeated SEC champ is denied the opportunity to play for the le (and almost 3, given that Oklahoma playing LSU was no gimme at the end of the season two years ago). I can't imagine that the powers that be in the SEC will be very keen on that idea -- those teams play brutal schedules and the idea that the undefeated champion of that league doesn't deserve a shot is hard to comprehend.

Virginia Tech will have the same argument because of the strength of the ACC.

If you have 4 undefeateds and the 2 that come from, arguably, the 2 best conferences in college football aren't playing for the le, the system has a major flaw.

Personally I think the system is already flawed.

Every year the BCS seems like more and more of a joke to me. USC not number one???? They are only on a how many game winning streak? And what, two time National champions, going for their third straight??

The BCS is a joke. They need to just have a freakin playoff!

This is what happens when you decrease the human element.

A playoff is the only fair way.

With a le game the ACC & SEC are still up for grabs.
After the Rose Bowl there will only be 1 undefeated team. vBookie it!

Texas will be #1 this week, it will go back to SC next week.

I thought the computers sucked last year with everything that went down, this only confirms it even more.

If you haven't lost a game for two years, are working on your third le, you should be #1 until you lose.

ing dork ass programmers, probably went to school at UCLA.

I just hope that USC doesn not fall out of the NC game (weather it be by the BCS or by losing) WHATSOEVER!!!

I dont care who they play, just as long as they stay #1 or #2 in the BCS!
