Its only a i3, but its in my price range. This laptop is for my wife and she really needs it for just emails and Microsoft Office.

is i3 suffice?

Yeah definitely, looks like a really good little netbook there. If you're going to be using it for basic web browsing and office then you'll be completely fine. An i3 is more than enough to really handle all of that.

Wow. Are you serious? Do a little research. Clock speeds hardly matter anymore. The new i5s absolutely throttle AMD's best offering. They aren't even in the same league of performance, desktop or laptop.

This isn't entirely true, clock speeds still matter on desktop systems right behind cache size. Intel's CPU's are better in comparison to AMD's offerings but are still more expensive. This is where AMD has a slight advantage in cost/performance and also the fact that they aren't switching sockets every single ing year. That get's real old. How long has AM2/AM3 been around?? A very long time.

I don't know why temperatures would be that big of an issue since Intel's are notorious for heat, much more than AMD. Intel P4's would regularly idle at 60C back in the day. This was a huge problem in the first generation of intel macs too where the chassis in the laptop would burn people. Most desktop AMD CPU's would hover around 40-50C. The i7 740QM in my laptop regularly idles at 60C and that's well within the ranges of an acceptable temperature. My desktop i7 950, which is also overclocked, hovers around 40C to about 60C under full load.

Unsafe temps for nearly any CPU are upwards of 100C and any system would shut down way before it even got to anything deemed unsafe.

I'm not talking about unsafe temps; I'm talking about the effect that heat has on components in reducing their life span. In a large desktop case with proper ventilation that is obviously not a big deal. In a laptop its obviously a much bigger deal. A design flaw is one thing, but AMD on average runs at a hotter temp than an equivalent intel chip. That should be a factor to anyone who wants to keep their laptop running for as long as possible.

I've never heard that at all which is exactly why I brought up the cases in which the intel chips are known to run extremely hot. On what average? Which chips? Of course laptops will run warmer but that isn't what I'm talking about either. You say AMD has hotter CPU's but you don't say which ones.

its fkn simple man, buy a laptop cooler if ur complainin about heat

you can buy the cheapest laptop with current gen chips, replace the hard drive for a SSD, and you still be ahead of the laptop that has the same equipment in terms of pricing and specs to ur needs

I ended up getting this one. $229 more for an i5 ...about 400gb more and 2gb more ram then the i3 i posted earlier. Felt worth the extra money. What u think?

LED backlit, looks nice. I noticed a $50 dip in my power bill after I got a new iMac with an LED backlit screen (for work) and a new LED backlit monitor for my PC to match. Should be good for battery life.

Should be just the onboard video from Intel. I still use mine on my PC since I don't play any games at the moment. Handles 1080p just fine and Blu-ray, nothing to worry about. If I do wanna play games I will buy a better card, but this works great.

thats pretty old model man, i gave one away to a cousin in vietnam, since i needed a new laptop..still lookin or just wait for the new ivys or sandy whatever is next

Didn't want to start a new thread for laptop questions, so I'm bumping this one.

The Samsung is pretty much what I want/need for a laptop (internet browsing, home use, casual) and for a pretty decent price. I'm having a bit harder time finding an Asus with similar specs without getting into higher prices or a second gen Core i5 (which I wouldn't mind, but I don't need). The only Asus I found (so far) that's similar is an i5...but only 4 GB of ram and a 500 gb hard drive, with a 4-cell battery.

same price in usa i can do better cause of no sales tax and better compe ion for consumers,
