I was looking at purchasing one in the next few weeks. I'm looking for something low cost, but also durable. Any suggestions?

The lowest you'll find is a 500GB at around 100-120 bucks.

I have two. A Western Digital 500GB and a Seagate Freeagent 760GB. I got the 500 one for $99 on a special offer.

    The other one was 160+tax.

Check on that site. They always have affortable offers on electronics.

Western Digital is the best imo.

Thanks. I was looking at the Western Digital, but I'm not too tech savvy, so I wasn't sure if they were a good brand.

If you don't need the supplied backup software, you might consider buying a regular internal drive and getting a separate enclosure for it. There can be substantial differences in warranty coverage. For example, Western Digital internal drives can be covered for up to five years and external drives can be covered for as little as one year -- so read the fine print. I've had enough drives fail from all different brands over the years that I prefer the longer warranties.

    Here's WD's list of coverage:

    That's sweet.

This is why I hate buying stuff early on.

The terabyte ones were up to 200 dollars when I was looking for mine. Now they're cheap as . Of coure you still gotta know where to look.

I normally buy Seagate GoFlex, and I'm pretty happy with them... Just be careful with anything over 2TB, as some older OSes might still not recognize them without an update.

Seagate is crap for using with the PS3.

If you pause whatever you are watching and let it sit there for 2 minutes the device will go on standby and kick you out.

    WD doesn't do that.

You can turn off the sleep mode using seagate's tools. It's in their download section.
