10 years ago they were only $5 dollars. This recent trip, they were $25-$30. It makes me kinda wonder if in 10 more years they will be 5 times more expensive.

PS: I would like to thank Darth Vader for killing Obi Wan, Slimer (Ghostbusters), The Great Eye, the Precious, Little Red Riding Hood, Audrey Hepburn, The Joker, and The Balrog for graciously giving up their big wins for me.

PPS: Those were slot machines that my wife and I won big on. Vegas is so much more fun when its someone else picking up the tab.

Drinks are free, but you have to tip the waitresses otherwise they don't come by your table/machine often.

    slot machines?

no wonder you're trying to make up the difference on buffets
I actually prefer BlackJack, but the wife was with me since it was an anniversary trip. We stuck mainly to slot machines because we were winning consistently. Not like 1 dollar at a time, but normaly at least $60-$90 a pop.

I'm a fan of the Wynn buffet. Nowadays it runs around 50 per person AND has gone down in quality. Just a few years ago it was 30$ with some fantastic food.

I haven't been to the Rio recently but I thought their buffet (20$) was above average a few years back.

Haven't been in a few years but the most surprising deal in price and quality was Sunday brunch at The Steakhouse in Circus Circus. NOT the regular buffet.

Those were the days...When I was single in my 20's there were 3 or 4 of us that would go regularly, at least every six weeks.. I'd get comped airfare, room, and meals...they would even pay to fly a spouse/girlfriend...

They sure don't do THAT anymore...

Are you talking about the seafood buffet? I was thinking about it last time I was there, but ultimately decided seafood and buffet didn't sound like they went well together.

The $20 version of the buffet a few years back (2006?) had a seafood section but it was ty. I thought everything else was pretty good.. but at this point I don't even remember what I had, its all impression.

Last time I was there was April 2011. Price was around $35 and the crab legs were good for a buffet.

If for some reason you are up for breakfast, Paris has a nice buffet for that.

Crab legs are excellent for buffet. The buffet I wound up going to was Harrahs. It was pretty good. They had crab legs so naturally I ate a small mountain of them.

only buffet I ate at was at the Stratosphere and I think it was somewhere around $20. it wasn't anything special.

i tried the slot maching thing but I don't see how people can sit there for hours. I need some action. I cleaned up at the roulette table.

If you're in Vegas, I'm assuming you will do some gambling, so just sit at a $25 per hand blackjack table for about an hour and ask the pitt boss for a free buffet ticket and most of the time they will give you one.

If I'm in Vegas, I'm not in the buffet line. I'm there for one reason...to win money. You'll find me sitting in the sports book room either making bets or analyzing statistics. Drink in hand? Nope not me...this is not the time. Won't find me with a lady either. I've given her enough coin to play the slots while I'm making the real money. My specialties are women's tennis and Indian cricket. I'm an expert in both and considered a sniper when it comes to betting. I won't bet every event but instead I'll find one or two where I can be assured that my knowledge gives me the edge over the house.

I want to stay someplace close to where the games are. Do you know where the games will be? UNLV campus?

Yes. Stay at Hard Rock so you can get your perv on at the pool.

Is Hard Rock close to UNLV? I actually attended UNLV for a year eons ago, but Hard Rock had not been built then.

Hard Rock the closest major resort and the only one realistically walkable without bursting into flame. You can also stay anywhere near Tropicana or Paradise and take a cab or bus straight to UNLV

I usually stay off strip and rent a car (parking is still free AFAIK), but it's not necessary.

I would consider the Hard Rock an ideal spot to stay for the Summer League if that is where you plan to spend most of your time. Its the closest place that you can walk from to Thomas and Mack and it has a hip, lively vibe with plenty of action and eye candy.

But of you plan on spending most of your time on the strip and don't plan on using a rental car, I would choose an area of the strip that has a cluster of places you'd like to hang out in. Otherwise you're talking a lot of taxi rides.

I'll be there this weekend. If we end up checking out some buffets I'll report my thoughts here.
